Hmm, that’s a hard question. There are so many books I’d like to momentarily forget the plot twists of so I could enjoy the surprise again. Especially when listening to these books with other people and trying not to spoil anything.
Just off the top of my head, though, I’d say the Wingfeather Saga, The Green Ember series, or the…[Read more]

Off the top of my head, The Chronicles of Narnia. I listened to the Focus on the Family version growing up (which was amazing), but when I finally picked up the books, I already practically knew them by heart. So, in a way, I never got to read it for the “first time” because I already knew the stories so well.

@godlyfantasy12 This is an interesting conversation. I will admit that I kinda agree with @kathleenramm . Having a 20 year old female and a 16-17 year old male who are in a romantic relationship is kinda weird (Though, Shakespeare at the age of 18 married a 26 year old). I could understand if the ages were swapped That would still be very young…[Read more]

Hey y’all!
So, I’m dipping my toes into allegories…
Who am I kidding, I’m diving right in!!
I would love all y’all’s input on this subject! Namely, what are some of your favorite Christian allegorical stories and what made them impactful? What parts drove to your heart? Narnia is definitely on the top of my list of Christian allegories, so i…[Read more]

SO, I have two side character (or three) that I need to develop a bit more.
(This is for the story I was asking about the death of a character, if anyone remembers that… the WIP acronymed FP,WS.)
So, the MC has two students he’s teaching.
The theme is about changing the world and how you change the world in a meaningful way.
I already know…[Read more]

Jean Coul replied to the topic Have you ever written a sad ending to a story? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 6 months ago
I just recently wrote a short story with a rather bittersweet ending, but no, not a tragic one… *sigh*
As bad as it sounds, I’d like to try a tragic ending sometime. I think the problem is I get to attached to the characters to want to ruin their lives in the end. Also, it’s like some kind of puzzle for me at the end of a story.…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Have you ever written a sad ending to a story? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 6 months ago
@kathleenramm A lot. Well, not sure. Most of my endings are bittersweet; in fact, I can’t think of a single fully happy ending. But there was one story (that I think you’ve read?) where every single character loses everything and there’s no way to recover that, and it was the result of all their own choices throughout the story.
Still one of my…[Read more]

Koshka replied to the topic Have you ever written a story that took place in your hometown? in the forum Topic of the Week 2 years, 6 months ago
Well, I thought it was.
The lead up to the civil war and through till after the reconstruction, but it was less focused on the war and more how it affected the Jewish, Celtic, and Native American populations of the area. It wasn’t a pro north or south book, but simply a story of two families and a war.

@kathleenramm
I actually started working on one about human experimentation in which the characters escaped and made their way to Charleston, SC (one of the places I grew up) but I dropped the story because I didn’t end up liking it.I also read one set in Charleston where there was absolutely zero research done of where things are. It was funny.

@kathleenramm I’ve had some places based off of places near where I live, though I never mention them by name. I used to mention street names though, haha.
One time I did read a book set in my hometown (it was never explicitly stated but I figured it out using context clues) and hoo boi that was weird.

I did once start on a historical fiction novel which was to be set near where I live, but I put it aside for my current WIP.
Come to think of it, I only ever started two stories in our world, one of which was an early attempt at writing which I shall NEVER pick up again.

What sort of twists did you add to your towns?
