@aratrea Ooooh, that sounds like a great idea! I hope y’all end up doing it. I think that is definitely something that would bless young writers.
My mentor and I correspond over email and sometimes PM. I wish we could meet in person, but she lives many states away.
We just started, so nothing super concrete yet with timing. However, I try to be…[Read more] -

@overcomer Oooh! Another YDubber! Greetings. 😉 Have you tried the Mentorship space on the community site? It is a new way to get an online mentor. Simply state what you write and what you are looking for in a mentor. If that is confusing feel free to PM me on the YWW-my name is Bethany Rose there too.
Hopefully the Lord will provide one for…[Read more] -

Hey @overcomer I have a writing mentor I met through an online writing program. (The Young Writer’s Workshop by Brett Harris and Jaquelle Crowe) Since I’m editing my first novella, I ask her questions related to that. She has traditionally and self published. One thing that helped me is knowing a mentor doesn’t have to be super far ahead of you.…[Read more]

This sounds really cool! I use something similar to your chart for characterization-it’s actually an acting tool I used for an advanced acting class. I really shouldn’t sign up for another project just now, but please tag me when you are finished!!

@aratrea You’re right, I don’t think he does, apart from possibly being more afraid of “Uncle.”

Hmmm…
Synonyms for master in this case could be: Mentor, advisor, guide, counsel, teacher, trainer, sage, tutor, guru, chief, elder. Maybe, if there is a lot of formality, you could come up with some other title, like calling the master’s “Father” since they’re teaching them the skills, or whatever.
Synonyms for apprentice (if you’re also…[Read more]

@stewie-plotter @michael-Stanton The face of the girl robed in a galaxy lights up in a grin. Before she replies she inspects the bag carefully. “Aha! An unexpected reward! How nice.” She sets it aside, for there is the far more consequential task of Spreading at hand.
She lifts her voice and speaks into a vial she withdrew from a corner shelf.…[Read more]

@aratrea What about The Screwtape Letters? I haven’t actually read the book yet, but my family listened to an audio drama of it, and we really enjoyed it. It focuses on Screwtape trying to train his nephew Wormwood to be a tempter, and encouraging him to try and make his “patient” sin. But Wormwood keeps failing, no matter what advice he takes…[Read more]

“Yes, Professor. As long as they have equal parts water and forum post ideas, they will be able to whip up some wooden coins.”

“A most excellent proposition,” slithers a familiar dark voice from a shrouded corner. A gloved fist slowly breaks the plane of light cast by a candle. The fingers uncurl to reveal a small bag with a label that reads ‘Mix 1 part water with 1 part forum post to produce 50 wooden coins’. “For the Lady with all the questions. And there is plenty more…[Read more]

A dank odor drifts up the winding stairs as you descend by the flickering light of a candle. Ufft! You didn’t realize you reached the bottom and you just collided with the oak door.
“Excuse me? Is someone there? I am very busy thinking of questions and cannot…be…disturbed….Ah…mmm…I’ve got it! Come in, come in. I will need your…[Read more]

@catwing Oh, very nice. 😀 I enjoy learning about the ways cats communicate, and I try to communicate to them in the same ways. One of our cats, Minnie, often does a little nod of her head when she see me, to acknowledge me, so I do that back, and I blink slowly at them, which is a sign of trust or affection.

@catwing It’s like they can’t understand body language so had to invent a verbal language to make up for their unablity to observe.
Did you know that cats pretty much only ever meow to humans? In the wild, they only meow as kittens as means of calling to Mamma, but when they reach adulthood, they hardly ever meow. But it seems they’ve found meo…[Read more]
