@Xonos-darkgrate what @Daeus and the rest already said, basically, on the general subject.
I did, however, find your excerpt slightly disturbing, which is odd, because I’m not usually disturbed by that kind of stuff. It may have been because it lacked subtlety and I kind of just felt like I had my face shoved in a pool of blood for no reason and…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper YAS. THE MORE VILLAINS THE BETTER.
*coughs* Okay, maybe not always… but personally, since I write sprawlingly epic books with dozens of thematic threads and plotlines apiece, I usually have at least two villains. One is usually the head bad guy, but giving him an evil sidekick doesn’t hurt.

Yeah… @Daeus and @Sam-Kowal were right. I’m the wrong person to ask.

@Dekreel too many ideas and getting too excited and determined about finishing them all and saving the world by Thursday, Friday at the latest. 😛

@Winter-rose something odd happened and your post wasn’t here when I got the notification, so my reply is above your post and I accidentally tagged Hannah… 😛 *winces* sorry…
Anyway… THAT’S SO AWESOME!! *tackle hugs* Definitely be praying.

@Xonos-darkgrate ooh, yeah. That’s tougher. I think it could still be done though… ‘I swore silently,’ or ‘Easily half a dozen rather ungentlemanly words jumped to my lips and I just barely bit them back’. It depends a lot on his voice, of course, but I believe it’s possible.

@Xonos-darkgrate ah, classic question. 😀
I’m definitely not a fan of sanitizing everything to the point of complete squeaky-cleanness, because it’s dishonest.
That said, I think swearing is unnecessary to say the least. It’s different than other ‘content’ for one. Say, for instance, one of your characters is a harlot. Pretty dark, right? But…[Read more]

@Dekreel ooh, that’s an unusually flattering representation of me waking up. It usually involves rolling over at least five times and eventually tumbling off the bed tangled in my fleecy blanket (with static hair flying all over the place) and then crawling my way still half asleep to my closet while splitting my ears with yawning and trying not…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper congratulations on branching out. 😉
They’ve covered a lot… the only thing new I have to add is pretty small. You mentioned that you’re tired of writing snarky characters and want to try something different, but had no idea how to go about it…
Why do you like snarky characters in the first place? Is it because they come easy…[Read more]

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Story Order in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 11 months ago
@Kina-Lamb well, that’s pretty sound as far as I can see. 🙂 The only step I might add between the two is figuring out the theme, but I’ve not done non-fiction before, so I can’t say for certain how majorly that would figure in.
In your place, I would just ask myself, What lesson does this story teach me? To have courage? To persevere? To be kind…[Read more]

@Dekreel @That_Writer_Girl_99 @Dragon-snapper @Ethryndal @Daeus @Audrey-caylin @Jane-maree @Shannon @Sam-Kowal wow, thanks so much guys, all of you. Just getting the general feedback and feeling out opinion about the existing title helped me get so much more perspective.
@Jane-Maree, believe it or not, I had actually already considered Destroyer,…[Read more]

Hey, KeePers. I know I keep popping on and off very randomly, and I do hope sometime to be able to get back to a more regular presence, but for now this’ll have to do. 😛
I have a question for you guys. See, I have this book. I wrote it when I was fourteen and it’s due for a serious rewrite. That part is all under control.
But I’m having a bit…[Read more]

@Ethryndal definitely better. I love it just how it is, but as Daeus mentioned, you might cut out the first bit about her step-sister without any damage and probably with benefits.

@Ethryndal your sneaking suspicion is absolutely correct, but otherwise this is absolutely brilliant.
Seriously, and I almost forgave it for being too long because all of it was awesome. So yeah. It’s good. *vigorous nodding*

@Dragongeek good point… 😛 Just try to find a power that actually fits with the story for a reason. Don’t just go for super-speed or super-strength ‘because’. Think through what would best fit.
What era/type of names are you looking for?

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic School Name? in the forum Publishing & Platform 7 years ago
@Daeus I like that… not as much as Excelsior though.
Ugh. Decisions decisions.
You know what? I’m going to just throw caution to the winds and say go with Excelsior. I can’t think of anything I like better or even as well as. If you can think of a tagline of sorts to go with it though, so it’s more clear what it means and what it’s for, that…[Read more]
