@that_writer_girl_99 Research English longbowmen. They were the best of the best and traditional bowmanship was a bit different than today. Like English bowmen sometimes used 100lb draw bows, which just makes us all look like epic wimps basically.

@inklingforchrist Good question. I honestly don’t know. Every time I start a novel, it’s a big fear of mine that it’s not going to be very long at all. But even if your novels are short, it’s okay. My only suggestion for making books longer is adding in more conflict between characters and…[Read more]

@winter-rose Yep. I’m still lovin’ that GIF. XD
@ethryndal Perfect GIF. 😛 I’m surprised though, you didn’t use Galadriel. 😛 😉
@jenwriter17 The chair melting thing is basically what I do when I’m not happy with something. It’s my forum ‘signature’. 😉
@emma-flournoy Thankee.

@itisastarrynight For me, simple observing has been the best. I’ve actually been observing for a year and half now. O.O Woah… that long, self? Weird.

@bella-d Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of her. What do you like about her?

Daeus replied to the topic I'm New Here in the forum Start HERE 8 years, 3 months ago
@bella-d That’s so cool you write historical fiction. Some of us on here do, but the vast majority write fantasy. I write both, and other genres as well. Who’s your favorite historical character?
@rochellaine Yep, it’s called contemporary fiction.

@that_writer_girl_99 Okay. Well, there are a lot of swords, but this will cover all you need.
- One handed sword. The handle is only big enough for one hand. You’re probably going to use this in conjunction with a shield.
- One and a half handed sword. The handle is just the right size to fit two hands, but it can also be comfortably handled with…

@that_writer_girl_99 Okay. Well, if I just spewed out everything I could possibly tell you, we’d be here for quite some time. Could you narrow things down any? What do you need to decide on for your novel?
Also, if you haven’t yet, check out this article I wrote.

@that_writer_girl_99 I have fired compound, recurve, and longbows before, but I’m certainly not an expert on them. If you have any questions on handheld weapons though (especially swords), I’d be happy to help.

@GracieGirl HEY! YOU’RE BACK! Yayyy!! Has your life settled down a little? Have you been able to do any writing?
Trust me, we really did miss you (though I haven’t been on here just tons lately so I didn’t suffer from it as much as some people probably did. ;P ). *serious nod* Good to have ya back.

The Mysterious Benedict Society trilogy, by Trenton Lee Stewart
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
A Tale of Two Cities by Dickens (though that and the previous might be a little slow if you’re looking for action. But then again, if you’re reading something like Les Mis, you might not mind. 😀 They’re great.)
Mistborn trilogy by…[Read more]

@itisastarrynight So, I had that exact same question just a week ago.
And I started a blog. I had no idea what I was going to write about, but as soon as I started it, I started finding ideas.
To get a general idea of what bloggers blog about, I’d check out a bunch of blogs. There are some good ones on the page of my blog.
For me, I get the…[Read more]

@itisastarrynight Blogs, like social media, serve two potential purposes. 1, To promote yourself/get people on your email list. 2, To interact with readers. Actually, they also serve a third purpose of helping you get used to writing regularly.
If you really want your blog to be a major way you promote yourself, you need to blog about something…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm ehehe… well they better not be, because I’m using them. 😛
No, honestly, I think they are. But then, so is a lot of other stuff. I’m confident using ‘elementals’ in my work because the system, while it does incorporate elements, isn’t just about elements. In fact the element part is probably one of the least important bits.…[Read more]

@Northerner Was that poem published on here recently called The Human Mind by your sister, or by a totally unrelated Olivia White?
- Load More

Completely unrelated. Other Olivia Whites do seem to follow us around, though.
Funny.
We’ve bumped into other Sophia Whites, too — one of them, when we lived in the Cities, went to the same hospital and our records got mixed up once. It’s weird how often that happens.
Oh, and then when people who know us personally call each of us by the other’s name, things get even more complicated in no time.
Uh, yikes. That’s freaky.
What, you and your sister? Do you look similar? That I’m used to. People think my oldest sister Elizabeth and I look incredibly similar (supposedly, we really do, but I don’t think the resemblance is THAT close), and we get called each other ALL the time. People confuse us for twins even. She’s four years older than me.…[Read more]
