Aahh! That does sound disappointing. I like Almanzo well enough, but not to replace the Ingalls. :'(
No, we’re not to Nellie’s marriage yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s in this season (which you probably know, which is probably why you asked. ;P). I can certainly imagine it would be funny.
A NEW FAMILY moves into the Ingalls’ house?!…[Read more]

Daeus replied to the topic Alternatives to flashbacks? in the forum Plotting 8 years, 3 months ago
@itisastarrynight I think one big thing that makes flashbacks seem cheesy is when the chapter before the flashback ends with something like, “he remembered the time thirteen years ago when blakedy blank blank…” If you can avoid that, it should really help.

@radically-surrendered Hi! I thought I’d let you know that I tagged you for the Liebster Award on my blog. If you’ve seen it that’s fine, but one of the rules is to notify the people you tagged… so I thought I’d notify you. XD

@gh24682468999 I don’t recommend making your story short just to write a short story. Make the story as long as it should be. A story should be short when the concept, plot, etc are simple enough that a short story is all that is needed; a story should be long when the concept, plot, etc need more room to flourish.
Setting is important for any…[Read more]

Heh. You tagged me.
Welp, writing short stories is actually really difficult for me. The only thing harder than writing a short story for me is coming up with a character’s name. XD
But I’ll give you what advice I can from the few successful times I’ve written or read short stories.
So, if you do have a big story world, don’t…[Read more]

@waterlily This does sound like a neat concept! The only thing that doesn’t quite make sense to me is how the seawyrms could have her family crest marked on them? Am I just misunderstanding? Of course, when you go to write this you can definitely explain in better detail. XD

@jane-maree Yes, well, certainly there can be exceptions, but that’s the general trend. With KP, I know that our emails were read more when we removed all images from them except the picture prompts. That’s with people telling us they liked the pictures in the emails.
I’d recommend split testing it if you’re unsure. Just send out some with images…[Read more]

@Mariposa artwork would probably fit the bill too. Remember that you don’t have to stick with the one option forever. You can play around with every email you send out. 😛
@Daeus I’m curious that you say that. When I sent out my first newsletter I had no pictures or anything and the biggest lot of feedback I got was for “more photos and…[Read more]

@aella Yeah, definitely speak in his terms. Don’t try to make him a writer or treat him like a writer, because that’s probably not where his focus should be. He won’t understand the way you think, so you have to understand the way he thinks which is. It doesn’t matter what you value about writing, find what he values and show him whatever ways…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien @mariposa Actually, statistics show that people are far more likely to read an email that has just text. People say they like pictures, but when it actually comes down to it, they distrust emails with pictures in them. Of course, it depends on your niche, but I think it’s most likely your audience will pay more attention to you…[Read more]

@Aella yikes… I do not envy you. 😛
Well… oh boy. If this was my task, I’d probably take a mathematical approach, since communication is all about presenting the material in the way your audience is already used to thinking.
First, I would explain the purpose of fiction— how it’s use is to touch people on the heart and make them think…[Read more]
