Okay… *deep breath* I should have done this directly after listening to the lesson, but life, so oh well. Here goes.
‘Nother note… *facepalm* I rearranged the theme of this story AGAIN because I realized that the supporting themes were not as much Morality and Truth as they are Morality and Hope. What does man hope in? So. Just bear that in…[Read more]

@Daeus *grins* Thanks…
And those sound absolutely adorable. I want one.

And I have easily a bazilliondy characters (not exaggerating), so if for whatever reason that doesn’t work, I can offer you more. 😛

@I-J-Anderson … did… did I understand this correctly? You want descriptions of characters so maybe they can inspire you and other ‘stuck’ artists to draw a portrait of them?
This is… I like this. This is unusual. But really cool.
Umkay… let me see. *scratches head* Assuming I’ve understood this correctly… have a character.
Taren.…[Read more]

@Northerner all right, I see. Yes, we’re talking fantasy, and as I believe fantasy is only a representation of the reality of truth (to us; in our world) and that it should be a copy of our world in its moral laws and ruling powers (as those are what determine truth) I don’t necessarily like it when a fantasy world is governed by rules/laws whose…[Read more]

@Northerner you seemed to imply that as long as a witch was using her power for good (even if it was the same power a bad witch had) then the magic was good. Perhaps I misunderstood you?
-
Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Magic in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 2 months ago
@Northerner I see your point… but I think the correctness of the moral foundation is more important than what the power’s used for. God may allow Darkness (how else would it still even exist? But that’s another discussion) but He does NOT condone it, and by its very definition it cannot be used for good. Out of the heart the mouth speaks. A…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper *bows* Any time… XD
Yeah, no, I get your point. And I definitely agree it shouldn’t be treated as ‘just another story element’. Just as being a prophet in the Old Testament was a grave responsibility and a mark of high honor from God, anyone entrusted with any sort of supernatural gift should not just ‘go whacko’ with it. 😉

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Stereotype/Archetype Suggestions for KP Cinema? in the forum Film 9 years, 2 months ago
@Dragon-Snapper an archetype is basically the typical role any given character fulfills. Mentor. Hero. Dark Lord. A slot for a character that doesn’t really depend that much on the character himself, but what part the character plays in the story.

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Magic in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 2 months ago
@Dragon-Snapper I would disagree. The definitions are wrong. Sorcery in our world is demonic power, and since our fantasy worlds should be copies of God’s nature and God’s creation, sorcery should be bad in fantasy worlds as well. Spells and dark incantations and witches and the like should always be portrayed as bad. I do not think you…[Read more]

@Aratrea Well… Hmm. I wouldn’t say the lessons have been focusing on physical conflicts rather than mental conflicts. It’s just the matter of tying the theme to the conflict. Something like your example of fear and courage is pretty easy to show through conflict. You can show a character running and hiding at the beginning, then standing up and…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy He deserves to be a favorite, the poor guy.
And… I’m not going to use my trilogy for this lesson. It needs major thematic work and I’m not worrying about it right yet. Well, I am, but not here… Anyway, this is for the other novel I’ve mentioned. The one with the positive character arc where the MC’s experiment in living is…[Read more]
