Tren stared intently into the smoke.

“All I see is smoke and a purple blob.”

“That’s him! Fire Face!” The cat bounded up, squeaking.

“A purple cat, what next? Okay, grab him and let’s get out of here.”

Carrots! Carrots of all things!

“Well, then he’ll definitely be in the kitchen.” Tren tripped over something and slammed into the floor. Lifting himself half up he groped for what he tripped over, it was a table leg. “This way, I think the kitchen is this way, but if it’s not, we’ll have to follow the walls. Call him again!”

Boxes. Cabinets. The kitchen to the dining hall had plenty of those, plus food.

“Follow me.” Tren navigated through the smoke and flames. “Tel me when you see anything from the dining hall, I need to get to the kitchen, he could be there.”

Ellis

“Yeah. Kate, Nahim, and Nora are fine. The Queen is injured. There’s also an imposter Lillening on the loose being chased by two sixteen year-olds.”

“Fine, though if you start coughing real bad, your coming out.” Tren turned and walked into the the burning palace, Callie in tow. “Fire Face! Fire Face!” He called. “Is there anything this cat likes besides fire? Anything we can use?”

Zahlin

“I’m fine.” Zahlin muttered, “Thanks.”

Woah. The Sword said sarcastically, Did you just say ‘thanks’?

Zahlin slammed the Sword back into its sheath harder than usual. It fell silent.

“I haven’t seen anyone.” He said, “You?”

He tried to smile as they entered the store, trying to shake off this weird feeling that it was all going to happen again. He tried to not stick so close to Fynn that he would step on him, and even pulled down his hood, all in an attempt to banish that anything was wrong.

Ellis sighed, sheathing his sword as the monstrous Jep retreated.

He turned to Zahlin.

“You good? I’m looking for Fennin. Have you seen him?”

Jep

Jep screached, using one hand to try to get the man away. Throwing webs and more webs, she retreated. They had ruined her fun.

Jep, unlike Nahim, has no patience or endurance or wounds. She’ll take cuts and bruises, but once it gets past a certain point forget it.

Zahlin

Zahlin finished slicing his feet free as the creature – Jep,  she had called herself – was distracted by Ellis.

Zahlin stabbed at her from behind, but she evaded his attack. He gripped her arm, swinging her around and slamming her into the wall. At the same time he brought his Sword down across the back of her shoulder.

Ellis tried to correct his course mid-jump, which resulted in him landing awkwardly and stumbling into the wall. He rolled away as the monster tried to attack him again.

Jep jumped back, shifting into a drider again, but she also swung at the guys head as she did so, plus shot some webbing, because why not?
