@gabbyj Hmm
Well, being optimistic doesn’t always mean being extremely lighthearted, but it does mean looking at the best sides of situations and seeing the best in people. That doesn’t have to change, even if the story gets more intense and more challenges come as it progresses. The character’s optimism will just have to shine out through the…[Read more]

@gabbyJ I like this character. Anyway, to build on what everyone else said, if she is optimistic because she doesn’t know how bad things can be, then she’ll grow out of that. But, if she’s naturally a hopeful, cheery person, she might use humor and optimism to keep herself and everyone else encouraged, even when things are hard.

@gabbyj I agree with @princessfoo and @notawriter. But.
I have an addition. So, she believes the best about people. Is very cheerful and optimistic. But then something happens. Someone betrays her, or she leaves her safe, happy home and finds out just how scary a place the world is. Her worldview is entirely flipped. She now trusts no one, and…[Read more]

@gabbyj I don’t know if you have read this already, but I think you might find this helpful.
How to Write Comic Relief Characters without Annoying Your Audience
I can see what you are trying to accomplish. I once watched a tv series with a character who was really funny and light-hearted in the first season, but serious in…[Read more]

I Have a character who while I don’t consider her to be comic relief is extremely optimistic.
I think a good question to ask would be, why is this character optimistic?
For my character she grew up in a very healthy family around very kind people. So she always sees the best in people and (wrongly, as this causes her troubles at some…[Read more]

@gabbyj Well, I have to admit I’ve never really tried to add humour in my writing. Makes me sound a bit depressing.
Maybe it could be interesting to see that character mature as the plot intensifies. Unless of course you really want humour to remain throughout your story.
I know I haven’t really answered the original question. Just a bit of food…[Read more]

@gabbyj Okay. Well, in that case I’d definetly try and keep my distance if I could. Whenever possible I’d use long ranged weapons. Due to their size a ballista springs to mind. I’m going to assume your dragons breath fire so wooden weapons are redundant. A suit of metal armour might not be the best idea as it would essentially become an oven. Even…[Read more]

Um….the only dragon I’ve had to worry about taking down is the Ender Dragon from Minecraft, and no one who values his life hurts a dragon in Leifer. But….I guess I do have some thoughts.
One: Basically everything everyone else said. Nice work, guys! (Should I be concerned that you people seem like such experts?)
Two: First, you must get the…[Read more]

@GabbyJ *puzzled glance at everyone* These people sound experienced. It’s unnerving. Anyway, I (almost) never have to worry about slaying dragons, but my thoughts are:
• If the dragons have a weakness, they’re likely going to know about it. They would probably have a kind of instinct to protect their weakness. (Not flying directly over people w…[Read more] -

Stan really, really takes offense at this. He is a dragon, after all. And an angry one, right now.
*puts Stan to bed*
*whispers*
Okay, now maybe I can help.
So, it sorta depends on the dragon. Someone like Stan… well, that would be pretty easy. He’s small and can’t fly. (please, don’t ever read that, Stan.)
Whereas one like @dragon-…[Read more]

*clears throat* To slay a flying dragon one must first, ground, said dragon (unless you have great aim and can shoot one of their softer parts or where they are missing a scale *see @princessfoo above*. Though that is really hard and requires lots of skill. So here’s a much easier way, grounding.)

Dragons! I love dragons. There is a lot of variation across stories between them though, so it really depends on the dragons in your story. If you are going to have a lot of fights with dragons, than they are probably going to be less powerful than say, Smaug. Here are some things to keep in mind in dragon fights.
- The biggest problem,…

@gabbyj I’d say it depends on their size mostly. How big are dragons in your fantasy?

@gabbyj
I feel like what is ‘realistic’ has a lot to do with the context of your story. I’ve never written a fantasy but I feel like (pls correct me if i’m wrong ..) a large part of making a ‘realistic fantasy’Â is having strong suspension of disbelief with your audience. I’m aware this doesn’t really answer your question but .. uh food for thought? -
itisastarrynight replied to the topic How to (realistically) kill a dragon in the forum Plotting 6 years, 10 months ago
@gabbyj I haven’t given it much thought, but..
Dragons have wings, which means they mostly fly. So they are probably slower and less dangerous when they’re on foot and their flight is disabled. As for killing them..
Is it easier to be attacked if you went for the heart or the neck? Or poison always sounds legit, too, in whatever form it could be…[Read more] -

The first one’s name is, um… Dekreel (Not me! A different Dekreel. He’s a historian… I was named after him actually 🙂 ) Anyway, he’s in his mid to late 20s. He has curly black hair with a beard that looks like Daeus’ beard. Pale blue eyes, fairly small nose,…[Read more]
