Did you mean Anne of Windy Poplars? By Lucy Maude Montgomery? Why— because ‘a C always looks so smug’? 😉

You know those /really/ cheesy scenes in movies and books when someone says something like, “Uh, guys, I’m still here you know…”
Yeah, I’m not gonna say that.
… because in the really cheesy movie scenes, they are usually insulting that character. Not complimenting them.

@Natalee
Totally understand that. 😛 I usually like it when that happens, though because I sort of plot out where I think the story is going to go from the point I’m at, and someone coming back usually throws off my predictions, which I, strangely, enjoy very much. So, I’ll echo your last part. 😉@Kate
Hmm, that sounds interesting! Never read…[Read more] -

Almost exclusive british isles decent here. And I started writing a book set in Ireland at one point, though it wasn’t too well researched. I know a bit about it, though.
I’ll provide a second opinion for Kate’s stuff. 😛 -

Well… I have both Irish and Scottish blood on my mom’s side, Cherokee and Huguenot blood on my daddy’s side, and an insatiable affinity for all things Celtic. I don’t think I have just vast reservoirs of knowledge on anything Irish, but I have collected quite a few odd little tidbits here and there. What was your question? Maybe I can answer…[Read more]

We’re in the same boat there! This is the only such site I have ever been a part of, and I don’t know whether you’d consider this social media. Frankly, I just don’t have time. I seem to be consistently short of that… 😛

I’ve never used Facebook, or any other social media site for that matter.

Amen to that last part, Natalee!
But I have a thought on this. How many of you here have read the Lord of the Rings? It’s my all time favorite book, so I’ll probably be referencing it so much you guys are going to start screaming ‘enough with the Lord of the Rings stuff already!’ so I’m going to take advantage of it before it gets too old.…[Read more] -

Do you think that would help you reach a larger audience than if you had a normal website? Could it still be useful even before your book comes out?
I’m going to add a more detailed question. When using poster style advertisements, like the type you see on billboards, web adds, or magazine adds, what are some ways to set your book apart from the…[Read more]

So apparently Singapore isn’t the most hospitable place ever, but it must have something going for it. How are its moral and economic trends? Is it a socially free place? Does it have a constitution? Is it a republic, a democracy, a monarchy, what?

social networking sites are a tremendous opportunity, but what is the best way to use them for marketing a book? I don’t really have any experience in this area.

Ditto Natalee.
And a virtual book tour is sort of like creating a blog chain for your book. Recruit a bunch of blogs to put up a review of your book, or an excerpt, something like that. Then pick a day for it all to go up, and link it all on your…[Read more]

Wow Sarah, you’re British? Neat! Does that mean you spell color like colour? And honor like honour? And valor like valour? And judgment like judgement? Oh wait… 🙂
I actually get into trouble a lot with that one, because I read a lot of old British books, and for the longest time that’s how I thought those words were really spelled. Gulp. And…[Read more] -

Please explain what you mean by “virtual book tour”.
Local events, a good idea. I hadn’t thought about that.

Well, I have the two stories on here:
And then I have three books on lulu.com. Odd Team Out, a sci-fi much loved by my siblings and much in need of a rewrite. Amazing Honesty, my OYAN novel. And Tales of Faith my short story collection.
And I’m working…[Read more] -

I self published and haven’t sold a ton of my books. But I sold quite a few setting up a “Local Author” bookstand at our town’s street fair. I do wish I had business cards then, but… oh well. Next time. 😛
Also it’s good if you have a blog to do promotional sort of things on there. Character interviews, book excerpts and such. And, on the blog…[Read more] -

Hello everyone,
If you really care about your book, you’re going to want people to read it. Whether you like it or not, the only way to get your book out to the crowd is careful marketing. As I mentioned in another thread, the time to start working on your list of marketing platforms is now. It is vital to start thinking now, but it is even more…[Read more]

This is a very important topic. Even if you write the best book in history, It can be a flunk if it is not well advertised. To figure out how we should approach marketing for the most success, I’ll just head over and start a new thread. Look for,”Marketing and platform: what’s the best approach?”
