Ouch.
How ’bout the stilettos of doom? The power is all in the heels, so you have to be careful not to break them. 😛 -

No Ezra—- shshshshsh! You’re not supposed to tell people that!

That sounds… incredibly painful. I think I’d rather die a horrible magical death than have to wield that one.

Good answers. *applauds* Bravo, Ezra. We will always trust you to have opinions on strange things not a lot of us have thought of before. 😛

@Shaina— haha! I had to laugh about what you said— telling each other what Middle-earthian race you resemble. Only a diehard Tolkien nut would do something like that.
Which I am. And have. Unfortunately I fall almost purely elf— which is too bad, because Hobbits are my favorites, then dwarves. Not that elves aren’t fascinating and all…[Read more]

Magic is my big no-no. So, the tablet wasn’t magic, logically. Actually it was something important from an Indian tribe, the Bearpaws. It was their little membership card, so to speak, in the tribe.
Very important part of the story for my MC, Robin.
And the necklace in question in the other book was a sort of energy source that fell from…[Read more] -

Well if that wasn’t the simplest answer. Sheesh— how come I didn’t think of that? It’s good we have you here to tell us these things, Ezra…
I also just wanted to say that no matter how weird we make any mythical creature, they will always have something human about them, because we don’t know anything else.
Even if we were going to write a…[Read more] -

Good thoughts. I’m glad to see this topic resurrected again after so long! Shaina, I guess I always thought jewelry, besides rings and crowns, (yes, crowns are so cool, no matter how impractical) was strictly a feminine thing. But then, amulets aren’t technically jewelry, are they? Yes, that could definitely work.
@Rosey— a clay tablet, hm?…[Read more]

Hmm, I think I get what you’re saying. It is not so much how you portray your alien that makes them real, it is how you think of the alien. If you think of the alien like it (excuse me – HE) is real, you will sound convincing. I like that. I should have thought of that. I didn’t. Thanks.

Where’s Ezra? He’s got to have some sort of wisdom on this.

I love dragons and griffins…only I’ve ‘created’ a griffin based off a picture that actually looks more like a white winged mountain lion. They are normally used as mounts (in addition to horses) in my stories. I like elves too…but as a race, not as mounts. 😉
As to using fantasy creatures without using cliches; well one thing you could do is…[Read more]

I know we always get to see the chosen winner for the prompt each week, but part of the fun is seeing what different people did for the same thing.
Let’s post our entries that didn’t win below!
Correct me and take this down if I’m committing treason. 😛

The two important items I’ve used in my writing have been a necklace, and a clay tablet. Though, I would like to use a bracelet sometime as well. It’s probably based on my personal preference, since I really don’t like anything on my fingers, including nail polish. Whereas, I like bracelets and necklaces a lot. 😛
Oh, and I was also planning on…[Read more]

Kind of. Most men (and especially most boys) don’t really like to dress up. There are a lot of exceptions though. Some guys are really concerned about fashion, but I think that is mainly just feminization, not a natural instinct. Some are concerned about not wearing clothes for more than a day while others will wear the same set of clothes for a…[Read more]

I’m sure some of you like sci-fi even if you don’t plan to write it. So what about aliens? They can play important characters so it is important to make sure they seem real and relatable. In reality however, they are neither. Even if they were real, you wouldn’t know what they were like. So how does one resolve this problem? How does one write…[Read more]

Oh, and I’ve also heard it said that while women will dress up for practically anything, men dress up for weddings and funerals and that’s it. 😀
What do you think?

I believe in extraterrestrials. There’s all sorts of non intelligent matter that is outside (extra) the earth (terra). There are extraterrestrial stars, planets, beams of light, gas clouds, cool stuff … Hey, I’m just having fun with loopholes.
This really has nothing to do with what you just asked. But I do find it interesting. Aliens. How do…[Read more]
