I don’t really read much sci-fi, but I just recently read The Giver, by Lois Lowry. It was really enjoyable. H. G. Wells and Jules Verne are always enjoyable and you might like Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles, I enjoy them as well (I’m up to the third book).

First of all, those last two would be classed as sci-fi rather than contemporary. Just saying so that you know, calling them contemporary gave me the wrong idea.

@mnvalentine Belated welcome!! We have really similar taste in books. I LOVE Les Mis and A Tale of Two Cities, and Narnia and LOTR. I really didn’t like Pyle’s stories though, I thought he wrote too old fashioned for me too understand properly 😀

No worries. They are curved so that they don’t drag on the ground or get in the road too much. They were used by cavalry officers, I believe.

I hadn’t even noticed the cranes (I’m looking at it on my phone and I practically need a magnifying glass). But they’re so cute!! I love them. *hugs all the tiny origami cranes*

I LOVE this! I love me too (for future reference though, sabress are slightly curved. They aren’t quite straight). I love how haughty Catwing looks too.

@jenwriter17 it sounds pretty good. the premise is a fairly common one, so maybe you could try twisting it in some way, adding a really good plot twist that the reader won’t see coming, such as making the villain less obvious, or making it one of the guardians themselves, or even her mentor.
