Kate Flournoy replied to the topic What do ya'll think about taking breaks? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
*cringes at all the beautiful sensible comments and retreats inside her dragonish shell*
@Winter-Rose umm… unfortunately the longest break I’ve ever taken, with all eight* novels I’ve finished, is… um… one night.
Literally. One night between novels and then I can’t wait any longer. I probably should take longer breaks… don’t kill me…[Read more] -

@Winter-Rose @GracieGirl thank you both for your prayers, and yes, Gracie— I’ll pray. 😉 I don’t imagine something like that comes without a lot of emotional turmoil in the family too.

Oh! I forgot! And I’m looking for a Brittish beta-reader too. I’ve got two characters who are modern Britts, and I have very little idea how modern Britts talk. If you happen to know any Brittish people who might be interested, I would be appreciative.

@dragon-snapper Okay, well, you can be part of the first round if you think that would be best.
Go ahead and send me the manuscript right away.

@hope Sure.
@his-instrument While I don’t have time to completely beta read it, I could brainstorm with you about the overall plot, characterization, theme, and stuff like that. I might be able to beta read the first couple chapters too, just for stylistic stuff. I don’t know for sure, but we’ll wait and see. -

I half agree with you @dragon-snapper. If you work on a new project during your break, I think it’s fine though.

@winter-rose Breaks aren’t absolutely necessary, but they are really helpful. If you feel like your work is a sloppy mess, it’s more likely that you need a break from it. But I don’t think that means you have to keep it from your alpha reader. What you might do is just let her read it and give you her thoughts, but don’t look at her thoughts until…[Read more]

@northerner Thanks 🙂
@his-instrument Are you talking about The Prince of the Barbarians?
@lifeofkatie Sure, well, it’s all up to you. At the moment, I don’t feel any particular need for another beta-reader, but if it’s something you’d want to do, I’d be more than glad to get your feedback. Each new perspective notices something nobody else did.…[Read more] -

@dragon-snapper Yes, that’s fine.
@northerner Eh, yeah. I wish I could. 🙁
Medieval details? Seriously? I would actually love that.

@dragon-snapper So it will be around 80,000 words. Yeah, that sounds perfectly doable. Sign me up. 🙂

Greetings KeePers,
For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been working on a time-travel novel over the past few months. I wrote it, edited it, got some feedback, and then edited it again.
So this baby’s out of his diapers and ready to walk around. What I’d appreciate is some helping hands to mature this story into something great (aka beat…[Read more]

Welcome, welcome, and thrice welcome, @Allison-Grace! I newly became a Ydubber myself. 😀 And fantasy is my genre of choice as well… at least, I’ve written more in that than in other genres. 😉 What’s your favorite thing about writing, if you can choose? And what are some of your favorite books?

Hi @allison-grace. Welcome to KP (aka the bestistest place on the internet) 🙂
I’d like to hear more about your novel. What’s the basic premise? What’s important about this novel to you that makes you enjoy writing it?
I know there are a couple Y-dubbers on here. Actually, I’m one myself, though it’s very rare I interact in the community.
What…[Read more]

@That_writer_Girl_99 if that’s what you feel like you need to do, go for it. I’ll be here just the same.
If I may be allowed to make a suggestion, maybe you should try a short-story or two. Just to get in the practice of completing things and making a coherent whole without all the work and indecision of a full novel. -

Oh, my head. Thank you. That means a lot. 😉
Oh yeah, totally. So long as you don’t ask me to do backflips or somersaults, I should be good. XD
