Aye aye Captain, that’s right smart there.I do visualize my scenes, but unfortunately, I often fail to express that visual like I should. Thankfully though, like I said, I’m starting to pull out of that and it seems to be making my writing much better. It’s nice that I’m realizing this before any publication. Hopefully, when I go…[Read more]

An order of monks who have taken a vow of cheerful chattering.
You have no idea how hard that made me laugh, @Anna-Brie. 😀

Ah, this is a great topic, @Daeus. I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about— only I never had to go through the transition you’re going through now. My books always started as movies in my head— a visual reference to set down on paper, and I wrote it as I saw it, not as I thought it ‘ought to be written’, if you know what I mean.
I don’t…[Read more]

@Daeus: Thanks so much for sharing this! I’ve never really thought about it before, but the example you gave makes a lot of sense. The second example really sucks you into the story because you feel like you’re a part of the story. Like I said, I’ve never really thought about that before. I’ll have to look out for “textbook writing” in my…[Read more]

I’m entering an exciting time, because after reading some books recently with an author analytical mindset and mostly by editing one of my stories and listening to my mom’s edits on it, I’ve come to learn a lot about how to put things. I always knew it wasn’t enough just to have a killer plot and intriguing sub-plots. I knew that one had to write…[Read more]

A merry, cheerful old uncle who wins the heart of his glum, sour, peevish young niece.
And a fantasy uncle (brother to the king and uncle to the prince) who is NOT a usurper. 😛

It was great to take that webinar. It is just as good to be done and come here. When it comes to arguments like these, I tend to prefer the point by point approach. I’ll try to use that here. C.S.Lewis justifies the Calormen soldier in this way:
1. He who seeks good seeks the God who is good.
2. He who seeks the God who is good…[Read more] -

Yes, @Belegteleri, totally agree! 🙂 Saying that a man can sincerely serve a false god (nothing more than a delusion of his own erring human brain) and through it serve the one true God in Whom he does not believe is the height of arrogant ignorance.

I’m just about to take a webinar, so I can’t stick around long, but my quick answer is NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!! C.S.Lewis scares me honestly. He’s got some great stuff and then he’s got some stuff that makes me go, “Huh? Wait, but – you – what? Where did you get that idea? Wha-wa-wa…???”
I shall return.

This is so cool. I was thinking lately (something I do a bit of now and then) and I don’t know what on earth set me thinking about this, but I remembered a passage from C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Last Battle’ and I realized something I’d never noticed before… then I was just like ohhhhhhhhh boy I gotta share this on the forum.

Here goes.‘… so she stuffed it in the trashcan and went to have a bite to eat at Chick-fil-a, because that’s how life works.’
My apologies, I think I’m feeling a little bit cynical today. 😛
