Yes, that was one of the reasons I dropped watercolor for oils and acrylics. It took for-ev-er to get enough layers to make shadows and textures realistic. So glad you like the painting @David! 😀 Here, let’s see if I can get another one…

This one is a classic example of the difficulties of doing vibrant watercolors— notice how streaked and…[Read more] -

People. Beyond a doubt, people, which is odd, since I have trouble drawing them as well as I can draw some things. But what’s so fun about people is that no two are alike— I love trying to capture their personalities in paint almost as much as I love trying to capture them in words.
I do love humor, as well, though I seem to be better at…[Read more] -

Alright, got a chunk of work to do. I’ll probably be working for an hour or so. Let me know if you’re on.

Umm, @bluejay, this is terrible, but I just realized I actually can’t do it tomorrow.
If I’m available Monday (which I should be) I’ll let you know

Yep, @Daeus got pretty much everything I was going to say. 😉 So… yeah. What he said. 😛

The sky doesn’t look too terribly blended to me, @david. 🙂
My thing is, I can tend to stress too much about details, and my paintings end up looking kind of crowded. I tend to ignore the forest for the trees, you know what I mean? I think that also explains the tendency I have to over-describe things in my writing. 😉Here… I’m going to try…[Read more]

Birds and fish, @david? Ugh. *shudders* I cannot draw either of those to save my life. Awesome for you that you enjoy them! 😀

The most painful, I think @aella (and what I’m having to do now as I edit 🙁 ) is cutting characters completely and totally out of the story. It’s not the same as killing them— it’s like you get to know them, and then you’re just like ‘Sorry, you guys have to go because… whatever’. And then they’re gone. Boom. Just like that. Nonexistent. Not…[Read more]

Oh yes, @aella, the dragons are the WORST!
And yes, I know characters don’t like being killed off, believe me. Villains especially. The worst part of it is when you go back and edit— and technically they’re already dead, but you’re having to work with them again while they’re still alive and able to complain about what you did to them at the…[Read more] -

@overcomer, This is definitely the “lounge” for me–complaining and procrastinating are my specialties. 😛

@hannah-c I can see how just cool names wouldn’t keep you motivated. Perhaps there is an opportunity there though for you to find some motivation. Character is what is really important, but names mean a lot to character. You might want to just set all your daydreaming aside for one day and dedicate it to dreaming about all the unique character…[Read more]

That’s awesome @rolena-hatfield. I love having sudden inspiration.

Solid concentration and half a chapter edited. What were you working on @rolena-hatfield?

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic W.I.P. Lounge Club (Writers Only!) in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 5 months ago
Welp, that’s what I get for creating characters with a more dominant nature than my own @Daeus.
The especially bold one I mentioned above is actually somewhat justified, though— I mean, I wouldn’t feel too happy about it either if someone made me lose my hand. 😛

@rolena-hatfield Or, um, that would be for 45 minutes.

Yeah @rolena-hatfield, I’m still editing. You want to work till 11:30?

@kate-flournoy Silly characters. You need to show them who’s boss.

@Daeus it hasn’t gotten quite that bad yet, though I do make sure I have a dagger or two about me when I work with my villains. For the most part the better-natured of my characters stand guard over me against the wilder ones, though that may change when it comes time to write their stories. 😛 They can’t seem to be able to grasp (or else don’t…[Read more]
