Daeus started the topic Why Paolini works (or doesn't) in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 10 months ago
I got curious recently and decided to read the inheritance cycle since a friend of mine said they were his favorite books.
Paolini’s interesting.
In some ways, he seems amateur. I wonder what type of editor he had to let some of his bad style slip past (I’m very cynical about editors). At the same time, though, not only do I want to finish the…[Read more]

@hannah-krynicki
I actually was just in England this summer! I have some British friends, who I’m sure would be happy to help you out. Also, I do know a bit about British culture and accents (I’ve done British accents for some plays before), and I’d be happy to answer any questions that I can answer. 🙂 -

@Mark-Kamibaya I like them both in different ways. Edge of Night is a great pensive, brooding song. Last Goodbye is more of a bittersweet triumph; sad, but not sad, because even though you’re saying goodbye now, you’ll always have those memories. *sniffsniff* I need a tissue. @Anne-of-Lothlorien can I borrow some of yours?

Election day is today (you probably already knew that, unless you’ve been living in a hole in the ground 😉 ). Let’s take the time to pray for our country today.
Thy will be done, Lord.

@kate-flournoy thought you would find this fun. Josiah just mentioned your profile is the third most visited page on all of KP.
-
@Daeus WHAT??? O.O Tell me you’re kidding. *faints*
Probably trying to get an up-close look at my profile pic and figure out what it actually is… XD-
No, serious. We think it’s people going to get your tag. Can’t be sure though.
-
Ahhh. Yes. You’re right, that’s probably it. Wow, my weird name has made me soooo popular… 😀
-
Hee hee. I’ll have to put an explanation on how to pronounce my name on my profile 😉
-
The world would be so dull without unpronounceable names, wouldn’t it? 😛
-
@kate-flournoy Is that even a question? I wouldn’t exist then! =bad

@Corissa-Maiden-of-Praise @Emma-Flournoy also has spinal problems, so I’m sure that doesn’t help either.

@emma-flournoy I’m a little that way, but not to such a degree. I guess just remember (with writing) it will probably be at least a month before they figure out you didn’t take their advice, and then you probably will have forgotten about the whole thing by then and they may have too.
And then too, just… just… you gotta do that stuff. Put on…[Read more]

@Bluejay well I think I did know that you were a singer, but I would have known anyway because only a singer would say that. And yes, I am a singer too. 😉

@Emma-Flournoy yeah, I guess you just have to accept that you can’t please everybody. I’m used to it by now. Maybe I did struggle with it starting out; I don’t remember. But ultimately you know what’s best for your work, and you choose the opinions that help most, and that’s your responsibility as a writer.
It’s really not all that complicated,…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy I think that’s right. Think of it like “dance” only without the “n” and with a stronger s sound and a bit of us before the s.
Speaking of which, I realized that the u is simply pronounced quickly if my name is spoken slowly. It is when you refer to me casually that the u becomes barely pronounced.
@hope Not that then. It’s like…[Read more]

@Bluejay wow, well good for you. More power to ya. 😀 And actually 8% introversion is an extremely small margin. For comparison, I’m 98% introverted, and though I am an introvert, most people think I’m an extrovert once I get comfortable around them, so I’m outgoing even for an introvert.
If that makes any sense whatsoever…So @Daeus I’ve been…[Read more]

@Daeus well, if I had my way I’d attend every time and have a blast, but… life. 😛 Can’t be too spoiled, ya know. 😉 So I would attend whenever I could— which probably wouldn’t be very often— I probably just wouldn’t say much.

Oh, my. I’m so sorry I can’t help you, but I know the situation. My WIP’s two main characters are from England and the story is in the future (though only for the first chapter before they get taken back to the 1300s).

@emma-flournoy I think Daa-us is right, though I’m not positive since you could pronounce it different ways, but my first guess of what you meant lines up with the correct pronunciation.

That’s another thing (thanks Sarah). We want to let you ask whatever you want, but we might still have a theme for each one. Anyone have any thoughts on that? What about having a prepared section as well?

Daeus replied to the topic The Mind of a Writer in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 10 months ago
@kate-flournoy Well, that’s the closest wrong one. And anyways, I don’t think there is an official pronunciation. I’ve never even asked my parents how to pronounce it, I just realized one day that I didn’t always pronounce my own name the same way, so I decided on what sounded best to me. Even my on family will pronounce it both ways, though I…[Read more]

Yes! Please take a minute (preferably at least five minutes) to come before the Throne and find rest in His peace. We don’t have to worry because we know that God has everything under control. Maybe, through some mysterious twist of fate, this election will improve America. However, sometimes, it was God’s plan for the Israelites to be defeated.…[Read more]
Amen @julia-r! Thank YOU for reminding me. I’m trying to rest in the Lord, but it’s so hard not to worry. I know that God’s got this. 🙂
Thanks for the reminder, Greta.
Yes @Gretald. Thank you.
Amen. Bless the polls, Lord.
@julia-r
Just like you said, whatever the outcome, it’s under control.
Yes, let’s all pray for America. Good to be reminded, @Gretald.
Thanks for the reminder, Greta. So many people are afraid today, but I know God is in control.
Thank you for the reminder, @gretald! May the LORD’s will be done.
Amen!! @corissa-maiden-of-praise
Yes! Thank you for that prodding. It’s cool to know that there are young Christian writers out there who care about these things; you guys inspire me.
It’s a beautiful day, no matter the outcome of the election- because we know where our true citizenship lies. Thanks for the reminder, @gretald
Yes, let’s do that. We need it. (Like always…)
Going to just take a second to say, you guys are beautiful people and a true encouragement. It’s such a blessing to see you all bind together and write for the Kingdom of God and support others who choose to do the same. <3 *fades back into the shadows*
I was praying for you guys too, @gretald. Now that the results are out, I’ve started a topic about politics to satisfy my curiosity…
Thanks @clairec! Your prayers are much appreciated. 🙂
