SeekJustice replied to the topic What's your character's Lie? in the forum Characters 3 years, 3 months ago
I love this topic! Thanks for starting it.
Personally, I don’t really plan these things out, so I can only identify my character’s lies after I’ve finished a first draft, sometimes much later (second or third draft). One story I’m just about to start the fourth draft and I’ve only just worked out the lies of the majority of the m…[Read more]

@elfwing I’m glad I made you laugh. And yes, you would be correct 😝

This looks so much fun! Thanks for tagging me 🙂 Here’s the first three things the protagonist of my previous WIP, Ilio, says. He’s a sweet, shy, academic boy who also happens to be a werewolf.
1). “Why am I naked?” Hmmm…I promise this makes sense in context.
2). “What has happened to me?”
3). “No.”
Interesting…

Hello there! Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you 😀
There’s been a lot of good answers to your questions already, so I’ll do my best to give my two cents.
Personally, I write in two genres and my approach to putting God into those stories is different. My main genres are historical and fantasy, and my historical stuff…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What trope is most common in your stories? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 4 months ago
I have a couple of tropes that will have to be pried from cold dead hands. I do like secret identities and I usually have one or two in any given book. But found family is my number one trope, it’s literally in every single book I’ve ever written.

SeekJustice replied to the topic Using a Pen Name: Yay or Nay? in the forum Publishing & Platform 3 years, 4 months ago
I think, privacy reasons aside, I would only go for a pen name to disguise the fact that I was a woman, but as a couple of other people have said, that’s less of an issue than it used to be. For example, if I was to write YA that’s a female dominated area of publishing and being labeled as a Chelsea wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic Fantasy Kingdom Names in the forum Fantasy 3 years, 4 months ago
My secret is…that I don’t. I literally don’t, if I can help it *hides in shame*. I’m still trying to think of a name for the city in the last book I drafted. The book I’m currently writing has absolutely no names. The fantasy novel before last has a world literally called the Dreamland (though this has a meaning and significance…[Read more]

SeekJustice started the topic Writers' Corner #1 in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
Hey all! Back in the golden days before KP shut down we used to have a topic going here called Writers’ Corner and it was basically just a place where we could come together with out mugs of coffee and cups of tea and write together, or simply just chat. It was the gem of KP so I’ve decided to get it going again!
I’m currently watching a lecture…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What's your favorite type of villain? in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 5 months ago
I must say that I go against the grain and like the powerful villains who don’t have sympathetic backstories and are just evil. Jadis is by far one of my favourite villains because she gives me such chills, particularly in The Magician’s Nephew in the city of Charn. Villains like Mother Gothel from Tangled who are powerful and com…[Read more]

@faith-q I can do the alphabet in ASL as well, since it’s very occasionally used over here, but that’s about it! And ASL people sign so fast! Auslan is much slower than ASL is 😀 I also very much relate to your feelings on sign language. I adore it as well! I recently spent a whole weekend at a “voice off” event and it was blissful, I loved it and…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic What's something that happened in real life that made you think… in the forum Topic of the Week 3 years, 5 months ago
Aw thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it. That story is probably my favourite work out of everything I’ve written. I actually entered it in a short story competition several years ago and ended up winning the overall prize. It was published in an anthology, but to be honest I’m not sure what copyright laws apply now so I…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic To edit or not to edit… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I’m a big believer in Doing Whatever Works For You, however, I’m personally going to go against the grain here and say that for me personally editing a duology together is what works better for me. I’ve written a duology and I’m currently in the process of editing it (or I’m pretending to edit it rather), and for me the best way to do it…[Read more]

@lewilliams hello there! I haven’t heard from you since the Intern days 🙂
*Rubs hands together* I’ve got plenty of recs for you.
First of all, I recommend a good reread. Whenever I get in a reading slump, I do a reread of some of my favourites. I just finished a Narnia reread and I’m currently doing a LOTR reread (in which I also hope to read…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic Writing and Jobs in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@relia I’d choose to have another job as well, either as a dog trainer or a speech pathologist. I love writing, but it could never be more of a side job for me. I’m a hands on person and I would need to be out in the world in order to actually write good things.

That is so incredibly cute! And I think we need a sequel to that short story about the janitor 😛
Occasionally little things I’ve experienced make it into stories of mine, but one thing that happened actually made it into the work I am possibly most proud of, a short story I wrote a few years back. Essentially, my family had lunch…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic A question for any Brits/people-who-know-about-this here… in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
@relia I’m not British, so if there’s any Britishers on here, please feel free to tell me I’m an idiot.
Anyway, I’m Australian and we tend to swear a lot and very similarly to British people, for obvious reasons. “Bl**dy” (censoring because I don’t know everyone on here’s personal views on certain words), h**l and d*mn are all pretty “low level”…[Read more]

SeekJustice replied to the topic Keep going or jump ahead? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 5 months ago
I usually force myself to keep going through the scene. Usually all it needs is a few hundred more words and then I’m writing freely again. Having said that, in one of my last WIPs I got really stuck at a large portion and completely skipped four or five chapters and just kept going. It depends on what works for you really.…[Read more]
