Guys, I’m actually really proud of myself this year. Reason: my perfectionism isn’t really getting in the way of my writing! 😀 (I know, right?!)
In past years, I – a pantster – would desperately try to make my drafts as perfect as possible. Perfect sentence structure, perfect dialogue, etc. (Everything but a perfect plot XP)
This year, while w…[Read more]

And a note on the tags—some of them have dashes in between words. Like mine—instead of @Emma Flournoy, it’s @Emma-Flournoy. @ Emma is the tag of another user. 😀 If you mouse over someone’s profile pic you can see what their tag is in the bottom left corner of the computer screen. The tag isn’t always the same as the user name.

Hi, everyone! It’s really nice of you all to welcome me <3
@Daeus I’ve actually had a kind of writer’s block for the past year–not the one where you have no ideas, but the one where you have too many and don’t know which one to choose. I was hoping this site could help me with that 🙂

Wait! Maybe it does work. Let me try. Sorry! Here goes the newbie. @Emma Flournoy I’m so glad to be here! Hmm. . .my favorite genre to write. That’s a hard one. My novel is fantasy, but my stories tend to be very character driven (as appose to plot driven) and often come out of things from my own life.

Opps I read that wrong… when your FRIEND is a writer.
In that case…Echoing what @emma said, When you watch a movie together there’s a consistent commentary about the plot quality and characterization of each character.

Hi @Emma/@kate-flournoy,
I see what you’re saying. Not having read the book, it’s a little hard for me to draw any clear lines, but I think you at least have a good point.
If I’m correct though, while the path the character takes is not untrodden in history, it is untrodden by anyone else he knows.
I can also see what you mean about a…[Read more]

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Love Stories in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 1 month ago
@Emma. That’s certainly a valid concern. I don’t like unrealistic, unhealthy, just peachy love stories either. However— keep in mind that you don’t have to have a ton of personal experience to write about something. Remember, Jane Austen wrote some of the most beautiful and popular love stories ever written, and she never married.
