*sighs* I’m staring at a blank screen, trying to start a chapter. I forget who asked me that question…

Zikers, I have a love/hate relationship with questions like these. Um, okay. Here goes.
I have favorite book series, and then I have favorite books within that series.
–Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief (book one, series one) and the Son of Neptune (book two, series two)
–Harry Potter: The Goblet of Fire and The Deathly Hallows. I also…[Read more]

@Dekreel to tone it down from being so dark, you could change the aspects of fear and horror/dismay that the tree feels, to a sense of confusion and curiosity. That would shift the mood from ‘scary’ to a much lighter feel.
A way to avoid so much of the human terminology you can use similes instead. Saying “I feel a great, pulsing joy in my heart”…[Read more]

*gasps* *runs to tackle-hug the dozen or so Webkinz in her closet*
Anyway. Enough of my antics. @ingridrd The story does, as @kate-flournoy mentioned, give off a sort of Toy Story vibe, but there’s a sort of open-ended thrill to it that almost begs for more. And I love, love the way you wrote “Pubby”. The childlike, wondering sort of style with…[Read more]

*blinks* Oh, well, I wasn’t expecting it to be so sad… *blinks again to hide the fact that she’s crying* Okay. I’ll need to read this over again before I can give anything constructive, but otherwise, good story! It’s really well written, and the plot seems smooth and easy to follow.
I’ll come back if I think of anything else.

@perfectfifths Yeah. I knew it was in editing mode. I left it that way because sometimes people like to leave long comments at the end of a story. Suggesting mode is much better for editing in general though. You can switch it to suggesting mode whenever you like.

Jane Maree replied to the topic SO…I need some advice in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 8 years, 6 months ago
@Dekreel something to think about is that Catcher in the Rye is about a character going on an adventure, and the reader experiencing his thoughts and emotions along the way.
I could list many many books that have this same vague plot. If I look at my bookshelf, there’s half a dozen that I see immediately which I could say had that idea as…[Read more] -

@epicaddie2 I’m working through this myself at the moment, but I do have one or two things to say.
First, you want to develop your world well before you start writing. Sure, you should only spend so much time building your story world. You have to start eventually, but spending a whole month world building would not be unreasonable. A good…[Read more]
