@itisastarrynight I think one big thing that makes flashbacks seem cheesy is when the chapter before the flashback ends with something like, “he remembered the time thirteen years ago when blakedy blank blank…” If you can avoid that, it should really help.

A story should be short when the concept, plot, etc are simple enough that a short story is all that is needed; a story should be long when the concept, plot, etc need more room to flourish.

@dekreel That sounds frustrating–sorry you’ve been running into that! Is there a recent forum thread you can point us to where you’ve had this issue? I’m wondering if for some reason the forum software thinks your comments are spam and is trying to remove them from public view.
