I have the same problem and have not mastered it… yet… I find for me anyway, it has to do with my mood. Try writing in the same environment as much as possible, for me it’s dark, quite, with some kind of epic study music.

@dragon-snapper I have my steel armored Catwings outside the window. The golden armored ones went home. After squashing another aspiring conquer. With only their hissing. Fortunately the steel got here just in time.

I read the healer’s apprentice by melaine dickerson . The romance was really sappy I thought.
(The extent of romance I prefer is character Tell’s other character he/she loves her as they are leaving on an errand… 😀 😛 )

Err – hmm, I’ve never read much historical FICTION (to be honest), but you could look up David McCullough. He’s got some great historical books. Also, off the topic of history/historical fiction, I just finished The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis and would definitely recommend that if you ever are in want of something to read!
