@jenali I really like that. The fact that you would normally think things like physical strength would be the most important thing in protecting you loved ones means you have a lot of potential for a deep theme.

@jenali No problem asking it here. Yes, many many secular books have a theme. A book doesn’t have to have a theme, but even if the author doesn’t intend it, most books do. Some of them can be very powerful, though that is rare. I personally believe that Christian books have an advantage when it comes to theme, because our world view is accurate.…[Read more]

@Daeus and @Kate-flournoy you are in danger of becoming unoffensive due to a lack of opposition. Cliches are so much fun. 😀 I like twisting their endings, not actually using a complete cliched scene or idea, but starting with cliches and then making it turn into something else is a very useful technique.

@aratrea Ah, right. Sorry.
His experiment in living is that man’s value consists in his name, and his name consists of his actions. Everything he does, he does with his name into mind. In his mind, if he fails, then he loses his name, and if he loses his name, he loses his worth.
The focusing question is: Of what does a man’s worth consist? T…[Read more]

Hi, @kayla-joy! Awesome to have you.
I should be able to help if it’s just outlining stuff. I’ve never helped someone outline a story before, but I bet it would be fun.
Btw, everybody, I just wanted to say something incredibly un-authorly, because I’m just that type of person. Cliche = well tested. Yep, and I would say some other offensive…[Read more]

This is a positive arc for a character in a fantasy novel of mine.
Characteristic moment: Shows protagonist discriminated against because he doesn’t have a family name. He is struggling to gain a name through his own actions.
Mash 1: Being told he has a name. He feels he didn’t earn it and doesn’t deserve it. He hasn’t proved his worth and m…[Read more]

@Kayla-Joy Hello. Pleased to meet you. *sweeps bow*
And trilogies… those little things. *chokes on insane laugh* I’m currently working on a futuristic/dystopian trilogy. 😉 I’d love to help, if I could. Google docs or email would probably work the best… I don’t get on here as much as I used to, to check things, for time reasons. 😉

@kate-flournoy It’s about a high school for the children of superheroes, all of whom have their own super powers except the MC who doesn’t.

@aratrea Can I post a character arc for each lesson, or should I just stick to the character I’ve been working on so far?

Hope Ann replied to the topic ARCHIVED – Discussion for Video Six: Positive Character Arc in the forum Discussion Questions 9 years, 2 months ago
@aratrea My answer is similar to my last one as well. One thing I have noticed in my own life is that it takes repetition. It takes a series of events to change; there isn’t generally one event and then I accept whatever the change might be wholeheartedly. The same is true with characters. There will be events that make them doubt, and then each…[Read more]
