My current style is very . . . British? It combines a very specific type of narrative tone with completely ridiculous things happening, but very specific character development that births the type of everyday comedy people have in conversations, which keeps the story grounded. At least, that’s what I think I’m doing. I’m no pro, I’m just kinda…[Read more]

Yeah, that’s totes a thing. A lot of my project conceptualizations start with the phrase “it can’t be done”, oftentimes coming from my own mouth, before my overarching (and highly optimistic) ideology of NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE kicks in. This idea though, while it had traces of that, was more of a, “Hey, this hasn’t been done yet, let’s go for…[Read more]

Wow. That’s great. If anyone can take something totally depressing and make it comic, it will be you. 😛
What kind of comedy are you going for? Slapstick? Snarky, sarcastic humor? Irony? Or wit? The only kind of humor I seem to be able to handle well is a mix of the snarky, sarcastic humor and the wit. For some reason I just can’t do slapstick…[Read more]-

Riiiiiiiight. Gotcha. >D Hey, I thought the punchline was ‘Get rid of cable’!
I think I know what you mean about a ‘British’ style. Did you mean the kind of dry, matter-of-fact style that takes everything in stride no matter how wacky it is?
And then of course the dialogue. I’ll have to say most of the humor I write is in the dialogue. All my…[Read more]

No no no, you missed it, stay with me here a second!
You laughed.
You, just you.
Somewhere in the vast scheme of things, as God formed you in your Mother’s womb, and saw everything you would be and mean and say and do, he gave you the potential to find joy in a picture of kittens wearing bonnets.
Isn’t that amazing?
Isn’t it amazing that God…[Read more]

@Rosey: BUT IT MADE YOU LAUGH! Did you see that? Did you see it? IT CAUSED LAUGHTER! The God of the universe created the smallest elements that make up the flesh of an amoeba and the largest gargantuan balls of nuclear fire in the cosmos but he stopped for a moment and decided that laughter would be a good thing.
That’s a spiritually…[Read more]

Miss Emma, I have spent a great deal of time doing things for the grander purpose, and a great deal of time doing things for fun. You would not believe how often the two intertwined, and even turned out to serve the opposite purpose more entirely than they did the original.
Now I may know something is wrong, and do it, and then I have done…[Read more]

Okay. So it’s our heart that matters.
So if you true heart attitude is like, “I totes my goats wanna write a great Christian story but I wants to do it in space with vampires and Amish people and stuff”, then we’re all chill?

This is very interesting stuff.
Platform building is something I’ve wanted to research more fully. Advertising is something I’m also playing around with. The problem, as far as I see it, is that advertisers and people advertising try to mimic previous marketing techniques, and it doesn’t work the second time. Your marketing campaign really has…[Read more]

Sorry I haven’t been more actively involved. I got a facebook message from Kerry Nietz, the Amish Vampires in Space guy. He said that Kate was asking how he got published, and he asked if I would share this article.

Why are there moral boundaries to what Christians can write about and include in stories? Do we have Biblical backup as to what’s permissible, or are we just speculating?

Hey guys, fun topic. In the podcast I posted today, I interviewed Kerry Nietz, author of the book “Amish Vampires in Space” (yeah, get a load of that title). Earlier today, I got this comment on the page.
“I have an honest question. Please don’t be offended. Should Christians really be using dark, evil things like vampires and zombies as t…[Read more]
