Kate Flournoy replied to the topic An Idea…. in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@CK4always if you’re looking for feedback you can certainly post a link to a google doc and ask around for those interested in giving it a read through. Unfortunately I can’t because I’m up to my ears already, 😛 but I’m sure there are several people here who’d love the opportunity.

@CK4always welcome! Do you like music? Do you like psychology? What’s your favorite color?

Daeus replied to the topic Writer's Corner #8 in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@ck4always The writer’s corner is an accountability system. Say you want to write for half an hour, but you’re worried you’ll get distracted. You come on here and ask if anyone wants to write with you for half an hour. Knowing that there is someone else dedicated to staying on track for the same amount of time helps you keep from wandering off.

Welcome, @ck4always 🙂
You have now entered the bestistest place on the internet! How’d you find us? Is there a novel you’re working on at the moment?

@Salome01w4g *grins* You can do it. Go forth and conquer.

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic When is it "to late" to outline your story? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@Salome01w4g never. Seriously, never too late. If you’re serious about this story and an outline is what it’s gonna take, outline it.
I’ve been very vocal in the past about my hatred of outlining, but lately I’ve been eating some pretty serious humble pie and planning to outline all the rest of my ideas from here on out. Too late for my current…[Read more] -

@kate-flournoy Excellent. 😀
One option actually would be to do ecards.

@Daeus oh yeah… didn’t think of the address or shipping bit. Hm.
And YES. About the emails— totally. And you’ve succeeded; I love it when I get one of your official emails because it’s usually hilarious. *grins* -

@dragon-snapper thou hast summoned me from the depths of digital art. What dost thou callest upon my extensive wisdom for? Dost this concernest my sister’s blog post?
Btw, I pretty much stood over her shoulder the whole time going “Oh, what about this gif?” and “You need to put this caption!” It’s a miracle I’m still alive!:D
Oh, and does anyone…[Read more] -

The theme I’m generally getting here is that we need to treat our reader’s with a servant’s heart. I went ahead and wrote on a piece of paper: “I exist to be a servant to my readers as Christ served the apostles,” then hung it up on my wall. Hopefully I’ll actually follow that principle. 😉
One thing I thought of that I…[Read more]

Great ideas, @kate-flournoy. Physical mail would be awesome to get as a reader. The only problem is getting addresses and non-continental shipping.
Alright, @aratrea! This is an official petition that I be allowed to interview Nadine a second time.

@Daeus for others directly… I think oftentimes it just surprises people when you remember them personally in a sea of other voices. Initiating contact instead of just responding, reviving an old joke, or maybe even remembering their birthday and surprising them. (*gulp* I barely remember my own… 😛 ) In other words letting them know that…[Read more]

@catwing Book signings add value.
I actually just watched the Skit Guys for the first time. I think the one I watched was called “mommy goggles”.

Then too, your blog posts should be above and beyond what people expect.

@catwing That’s true. A blog can give people extra value.

Daeus replied to the topic The extra mile in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@catwing Well, I think what you have inside of the book is certainly part of it. If you write a book that blows people away, then you’ve gone above and beyond what they expected. I’m more interested in things besides your story though. No book can blow every reader away. We need other lines of defense.
