@kate-flournoy Looks good. It might be clearer to phrase the theme as “man’s state,” but that’s minor.

@audrey-caylin I’d like to hear anything you’ve learned from working on a trilogy. this is my first one.
The three themes will be tied together. The personal theme is the meaning of life, which is also the main theme. The two others are supporting themes, so the understanding of atonement and the victory of good lead to an understanding of the…[Read more]

I decided this homework stuff is pretty awesome, so I’m doing it myself. I’m hoping to write a trilogy here, so I’m trying to study my overall story theme in order to start plotting the individual books. I came up with these three themes, focusing questions, and answers.
Themes:
1. Good and Evil (FQ: which will ultimately win?)
2. The meaning of…[Read more] -
Daeus replied to the topic Love Triangles— what the Classical Authors knew that we don't. in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 3 months ago
@emma-flournoy Well, Eugene would take these walks and Headstone would follow him everywhere, but Eugene would always pretend not to notice his existence in order to drive him to fury. It wasn’t really good, but it was interesting.

@emma-flournoy The ending was probably the worst part for me. Eugene’s positive change was very unconvincing and cliche. I don’t know if there were any redeeming qualities, except perhaps when Headstone and Eugene have that midnight walk thing.

@emma-flournoy Eh, it was decent. I never really liked either Eugene or Headstone though.

@overcomer It’s a nice poem. I did feel that the following lines were a bit bumpy, but otherwise thumbs up.
I should have liked to have learned it

Wait! Wait! I actually do have something to say. That is that it is actually ok if you end up disliking one of the lovers, just only if it’s done right. You don’t want to dislike them if they’re actually a decent person, but another technique is to make them an evil or fatally misguided person who would only end up hurting the object of the love…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy I characteristically have nothing to add, so I’m going to disguise the fact be rambling. First of all, The Count of Monte Cristo. I’m so glad you brought that up, because I love that book and it’s always good to bring it up. Secondly, the idea of the unpicked one has been fascinating me. I feel like that would make a great premise…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Absolutely. I’ve written a book with three themes. We hope to cover how to write books with multiple themes near the end of the course. If you are going to have more than one theme though, you will want to have those themes intertwine. Basically, one theme should be based on the others. Like, you could have the two themes of love…[Read more]

@leumeister For version 3.0 with the purple cover, I kinda like the ship blueprint, but overall the previous versions were much better. 1. They were more balanced. 2. They looked more spacey. 3. There was motion. 4. There was a focal point.
