@epicaddie2 Any update on your cousin’s friend? I know how tough it is to have a friend facing death, and I’ve been praying for her a lot.

@Dragon-Snapper YAS. THE MORE VILLAINS THE BETTER.
*coughs* Okay, maybe not always… but personally, since I write sprawlingly epic books with dozens of thematic threads and plotlines apiece, I usually have at least two villains. One is usually the head bad guy, but giving him an evil sidekick doesn’t hurt.

Hi!
Honestly, I don’t think having two villains is a problem. Lots of books, TV shows, and movies get away with it. Often, they come at it through an insubordinate/superior light, where one person is just doing what their told based on what their superior instructs, but I’m sure there are other ways you could go about such a thing.

Thanks for the input guys! 😀
@kate-flournoy @daeus I tagged Kate because I knew she wrote fantasy…I just didn’t stop to consider how long the fantasy was. 😉 My mistake. Haha.

Heya Kapeefers. This week seems to be the Snapper Invents Topics week.
Another question:
Can you have two villains? It kinda makes the plotline a little weird I know, but can you have, say, for the first half of a book there be one villain and the other half another villain? Or does that really just mess things up?

Yeah… @Daeus and @Sam-Kowal were right. I’m the wrong person to ask.

@sam-kowal Yeah, Dalinar’s character arc was amazing. Didn’t think Sanderson could top Kaladin’s in WoR, but he pretty much matched it. Yeah, Adolin seemed to get away with that, and I was also looking for some closure on the moral questions being raised regarding the morality of war. I suspect, though, that Sanderson at least plans on continuing…[Read more]

For a first time author, avoid going over 120k; 130k max if you absolutely have to. Once you become published, you can push the limit more (I just finished a 450k fantasy work that topped the NY bestselling list), but publishers aren’t willing to risk those sorts of word counts for unpublished authors.

@Winter-Rose Wow… that’s a tough decision, but super exciting. My brother has grappled with the choice of college himself, and I know how hard it can be. It’s incredibly brave of you to buck the traditional, pressured paths of society to pursue writing, and I’ll definitely be praying for you. May God strengthen and encourage you through this…[Read more]

So….I’ve heard a lot about fantasy novels being long, but Iv’e never written anything longer than 85,000 thousand words. Anything that was going to be longer than that I never finished. So I’ve been wondering…how long is the max for fantasy novels?

Hello,
A couple thoughts…
–I believe someone above mentioned that posting this in such a huge block of text makes it very difficult to read and comprehend. Maybe using something like Google Docs would be more beneficial to you in the future…
–I found myself skimming over the chapters as time went on. This may have to do with how long it…[Read more]

@inkling-for-christ I would love to read you work, if you still want feedback. But may I make a suggestion? Reading it in a post like this is a bit hard, and makes it tricky to comment on what might need revising. If you could put it in a Google Doc and share the link with us on Suggest mode, that would give us the ability to highlight sections to…[Read more]

@Seekjustice indeed. 😛
Editing is going fairly well. I keep getting sidetracked (thanks very much, oh my tiny little attention span *rolls eyes*) but it’s been fun.
