@gracie-j That seems like a strange divide. I wasn’t allowed to read The Horse and His Boy for several years, but that was the only Narnia book I wasn’t allowed to read.
Yes! I’ve read his Cooper Kids series (4-6 are my favorites; I’ve reread 5 many times) and his This Present Darkness books. I’ve been meaning to reread This Present Darkness for…[Read more]

@gracie-j *gasp* Nancy Drew was my childhood. I read so much Nancy Drew, Boxcar Children, Happy Hollisters, Mandie… But I was also given pretty free rein of my family’s library, ’cause I jumped straight from reading those to reading certain (parent-approved) adult fantasy when I was seven. XD

I totally forget what my first rambly paragraph was about, but it was rambly and probably not all that important.
Second paragraph was also rambly, but it was about my books. I have three:
- The Mirror-Hunter Chronicles
- Short Story Collection vol. 1
- Lost Girl
They’re all under R.M. Archer. Short Story Collection vol. 1 is the most…[Read more]

Oh yeah! I have a space to ramble about my WIP! So I got back into editing Calligraphy Guild (my favorite project in the history of ever)… by procrastinating, of all things… XD But anyway, I worked on the end of a draft to procrastinate on worldbuilding, lol, and then I kept seeing things that just made me think “I NEED TO FINISH CALLIGRAPHY…[Read more]

@gracie-j Would your character rather sacrifice themselves for their friend/relative or die for strangers in a dangerous situation?
Ooooh… Duyên would rather sacrifice herself for a friend or relative. So would Raiden. Sairsha and Ryuu would die for strangers. Zen… would probably die for strangers. Tora could go either way, but she’d…[Read more]

This is me with sooo many authors. XD Like… “I promise I came by this information innocently but… I feel like friends with you and you’ve never met me…” XD XD
Also, hi. XD I’m Archer. I’m a homeschool graduate and I mainly write fantasy. Welcome to KP! 🙂

Raiden would absolutely stay awake working for ten days in a row. It would get him closer to his application for the Emperor’s Academy.
Would your character rather wake up precisely at dawn and fall asleep precisely at sunset, or vice versa?

R.M. Archer replied to the topic Would You Rather Character Edition in the forum Characters 4 years ago
Nooooo, these require me to choose a single character. XD
Duyên would rather implement criticism. Not only is she teachable in a mature way, but she also tries to please everyone in a less mature way, so she will change herself to fit what others expect of her.
Would your character rather live in the Amazon or the Arctic?

@alia If it’s honest about the tone of the book moving forward, it sounds awesome! And it’s definitely an effective hook. 🙂

@gracie-j I like to think I have a fairly healthy relationship with criticism, overall, but after I’ve gotten critique from betas and sensitivity readers and editors and I’ve published CG… I don’t want to hear bad things about it. It’s my baby. Once I’ve fixed it up to the best of my ability I just want to keep my warm fuzzies about it. XD

@godlyfantasy12 I’ve had to experiment a good deal to figure out what method works best for me with writing down worldbuilding (and it differs between worlds, for some reason). Strict templates work for some people, looser templates work for other people, just throwing random thoughts onto a page works for others… (I’m in that last camp with my…[Read more]

@gracie-j Yep. I might cease reading reviews when I publish a book I’m really excited about (I… don’t want to read negative reviews of Calligraphy Guild when I publish that one XD), but for now there’s no harm done and I learn things, so it’s cool. ;D
It’s up to you. I might save Short Story Collection vol. 1 for last, since it’s probably the…[Read more]
