Kate Flournoy replied to the topic World building advice? in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 6 months ago
@That_Writer_Girl_99 good thoughts. I played around a lot with government and where it fits in, but it was so equally part of all four of the pillars I couldn’t bring myself to make it its own separate one. 😛
It’s probably the most perfect manifestation of a country’s EiL within itself, whereas Economy is a further exploration of that outside of…[Read more] -

@epicaddie2 Ooooh I was talking about this a while back… let me go copy and paste my emails… XD
It’s a fairly simple thing, but once you delve into it there’s a lot to work with.
Basically, I came up with four pillars I think every culture is built on.1. History
2. Religion
3. Geography
4. EconomyIn that order. History and Religion…

@dekreel Welcome! I’m glad you finally made your way to the forum. It’s a cool place. Elizabeth was so nice to summon me over here because I too am a fan of Wingfeather. Have you read The Wingfeather Tales? That’s probably my favorite because almost all of my favorite authors are in one place. Have you read any of Andrew Peterson’s brother’s or…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you’re decided whether you want to include someone’s backstory or not, and decide to do so not because it’s fun to write, but because it’s heart wrenching and when you say so, your sister says only this, “Sigh.”

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic How does one write an unhappy ending? in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 8 years, 6 months ago
@Jess lovely topic. I have a lot of thoughts on unhappy endings, but I haven’t got time to consolidate them all now, so I’ll just leave you with the biggest two.
The first is the concept of catharsis. The reader must be satisfied in some way or other. The reader must feel that something was gained; that the world is somehow better as they leave…[Read more]

Hmmm, a 52k doc? *thinks* I reckon you can toss me in the early group if you need someone. There are 8 days left of October, and I can write 50 in 20 or so days easily. However, the sooner I can start the beta-ing process the better. And yay! I like that style of beta-ing!!! *fingerguns* Looking forward to it @catwing!

@Catwing No dragon hoard? …Well, for those poor dragons of the lesser class *inspects talons* they usually spend their time lazily sleeping as you said. Doing nothing. There’s a reason they have no gold.
-
Snapper replied to the topic Writers' Corner #9 in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 6 months ago
@catwing That could work. Dragons like to pretend they know a lot, be we really just count our gold for centuries. Not that it gets boring or anything.

Perhaps because the fact that they are cold-blooded helps them not to burn up while breathing fire in the first place. Or maybe because they drink hot-sauce…*shrugs*
