@keilah-h Sounds fun! Especially the Everglades. What made you decide on that?

@sarafini Booksbyjayna is also the name of my website, so yes, it helps if it’s easy to remember.

@freedomwriter76 Who let you loose with the emojis, BTW?

@keilah-h Right now I’m writing Christian historical fiction, but I have some suspense ideas in mind. I like to write books with deep Christian themes and engaging characters, and I’m a real-world writer—speculative fiction isn’t my thing, but I know a lot of writers who love it.

@sarafini Just don’t be surprised if someone someday informs you that “What?! The FBI never does that sort of thing!” And I honestly don’t know if there is any team like ICHTHUS (if they are they’re really, really good), so I’m on my own. 🙂

@freedomwriter76 Well, Benjamin and Rane were competing for the hero spot at one time, so that’s probably why I’ve talked about them more. I do have rather a soft spot for Jem. He’s so terribly conflicted all the time, and it’s only getting worse.

@sarafini Hi Sara! I’ll take your questions in order:
1. Genre/genres: Right now I’m halfway through a Christian historical fiction trilogy set in the Revolutionary War era. The “genre” of historical would probably be adventure, as my stories aren’t romance. I do have ideas stewing for a suspense book or two someday—not FBI or CIA but a mysteriou…[Read more]

@keilah-h Hello! Thank you! Your name is lovely, too. Yes, it’s pronounced as it looks, so I assume that’s the same as your character.

@freedomwriter76 Thank you for the warm welcome, but must you ask such difficult questions? You seem to assume I only have two MCs in my WIP, ha ha. I currently have four, actually—one hero and three other POV protagonists. I think I like writing whichever one I’ve been working on for a while—once I get into the character’s voice, it’s hard to s…[Read more]

Hello, everyone,
I tried to post my introduction once, but apparently the links in it made it vanish into the void. Let’s give it another go.
My name is Jayna Baas, pronounced as in “baa, baa, black sheep,” and I live in the rural Midwest, where I write books, edit books, read books, and occasionally try to do other things that are not relat…[Read more]

@booksandbeakers I believe my introduction post also vanished into the “pending moderation” void, which is why I may appear to have popped up unannounced. 🙂 I’ve also chosen the self-publishing/indie publishing route, and honestly, the formatting for paperbacks on KDP is not that bad. I did it myself in Microsoft Word, and while KDP told me my fo…[Read more]

I agree with @Freedom. I’ve heard one writing expert describe story as getting your character up a tree, throwing rocks at him, and getting him down. You’re definitely in the “throwing rocks” stage, and that’s great as long as readers can (1) track what’s happening and don’t start thinking, Wait, what was that thing he had again? and (2) it ser…[Read more]
