I agree that guys and girls are different, and that should show in our writing. 🙂 I think my writing will change the more people I meet[…]
That’s a great way to look at it, @mineralizedwritings. God does have a way of giving us what we need when we need it.
Ha, apparently “cinnamon roll” is not part of my author vocabulary. I do think I have so…[Read more]

I’m sorry, @mineralizedwritings, that’s tough. Let me encourage you by saying that there are godly, caring guys out there. Godly, caring guys are still guys, and they don’t think or act like girls do. This is something I’m learning more and more. I’ve found some really helpful articles, though, which I’ll link to after this post.

Thank you! I felt kind of overwhelmed at first, but it doesn’t SEEM like rocket science (we hope). Formatting is the place I feel like I’d have the most trouble, anyway. Thank you, it clears up the can-you-self-publish-and-then-traditional-publish question! Also, Felicity’s question helped me too. Is Smashwords like Draft…

Thank you so much! Yes that was very helpful! I will certainly keep your services in mind, since I mostly write Historical Fiction. 🙂
@felicity I’m glad it was helpful. If you enjoy historical fiction, you might like the short story I offer to my newsletter subscribers at https://subscribepage.com/booksbyjayna.

@booksbyjayna I’ve been touched by the stories I’ve heard[…]
@felicity I think sometimes that whatever stage of a book project we’re in, it feels as if the real work is just beginning!

There are a few things I don’t agree with in her books, as you may have seen in my Goodreads reviews, but I love her writing. She’s an autobuy author for me now.

@freedomwriter76 and @mineralizedwritings, you mentioned your favorite characters and their “sweet personalities” and cinnamon-roll aspects. Do you find it difficult to write your male characters realistically? I have discovered that it’s something I have to be aware of and sometimes brainstorm with the men in my life. We don’t think the same wa…[Read more]

Hello, hello!! Welcome to Kingdom Pen, Jayna! I’m Esther: a volleyball-playing, violin-squeaking, dog-obsessed, homeschooled, God-loving, amateur writer!! I dabble in all kinds of genres when it comes to my writing. My WIP is ya dystopian, but I have a put-aside-for-very-long-time fantasy duology and ideas for a contemporary novel, a his-fic n…

I want to be published somewhere, but it’s important to me to get to be the illustrator, so I might go with webtoon. If you know other options, I’d love to hear what you’ve got! I’m mineralizedwritings around here, I write dystopian ya, draw, and make comicy things.
@mineralizedwritings There are lots of indie publishing options that can include…[Read more]

@gwyndalf-the-wise What does your name (Jayna) mean?
Jayna means “God is gracious.” Fun fact, my mom’s name, Shawna, means the same thing through a different language stream, so in a way I’m coincidentally named after my mom.

I’m Lightoverdarkness6, a teen girl who loves drawing, playing piano, exploring the great outdoors, ranting about characters and books, and, of course, writing!! Okay, now for the newbie questions! 1. Which of your characters are most like you? 2. What is your favorite movie? 3. If you could choose any 3 people to meet, (historical figure, c…

@felicity I forgot to mention—my primary fiction genre for copyediting is historical fiction, so if that’s the genre you’re working with, I’d be happy to give you a free sample edit any time. My editing website is booksbyjayna.com/editing.

@booksbyjayna I have a question….if you don’t mind…. I have a finished first draft of a 14,113 word novelette and I was wondering at what point would you suggest I hire a professional editor? I want to do some revisions, line editing, and have it Alpha read, but that’s about as far as I’ve planned.
@felicity I don’t mind at all. I recommend t…[Read more]
