Thanks @bella-d ! I’m glad I made you laugh! I had fun researching and writing about Nero. He was… interesting, and slightly crazy.

@bella-d  Well, to start with, the major event of Nero’s reign was the great fire, supposedly started by… Nero. It is said he played a fiddle while Rome burned! Then he blamed Christians for starting the great fire, and Paul and Peter were both martyred. I think it’s safe to say Nero was evil.
In his first five years of rule Nero was very g…[Read more]

@bella-d I second all the comments above! 🙂
Something I think is interesting about Medieval times is that back then very few people knew how to read, and so almost all news was carried from castle to castle by minstrels who would make up songs about the famous deeds done, and would learn songs from other minstrels to carry the news of those…[Read more]

Mud. That’s what comes to mind first: mud, and lots of it. ;P Other than that, fancy family crest thingies on flags, knights in shining (or muddy!) armor, guys with longbows, big battle horses, and those ice-cream-cone shaped hats that princesses wore.
And mud. 😀

@bella-d When I hear “Dark Ages” I think of the plague, grey stones, monks, Bibles with the really intricate hand-drawn colored pictures and font, and marauders. When I hear “Medieval” I think of knights with swords, jousting, rich women in dresses, castles, peasants in a town or village, and forests and rolling hills.
And for the record, I…[Read more]

@Bella-D it would appear I have been summoned. Thank you @daeus. 🙂
Let me see… there are a number of potential answers to this question. The one that ended up being the answer for me isn’t so much about changing the side of the character that is reserved, brooding, and unresponsive, but about developing a second side to balance it— the one…[Read more]

@bella-d I think the first way people learn to make relationships is when someone else forces them out of their shell into a relationship. I know this may seem cliche, but I think the reason it works so well in fiction is because it is like that in real life. I have seen traumatized and withdrawn people who opened up after a lot of patience a…[Read more]

@bella-d I could answer this, but I’m most interested in what @kate-flournoy would say since I know she’s faced something similar and overcame it.
