@jenwriter17 Definitely Out of the Silent Planet (C.S. Lewis)! And if you want something in the YA genre as well, there’s the Girl Who Could See (Kara Swanson) and Replication (Jill Williamson)

@dekreel ooh, a series would be great as well! I know of several authors with large casts who do that.
And yes, I believe he does 😀 I think he’s taken sparring classes before. I know that a while back he wrote a really, really good article on writing realistic sword-fighting.

@dekreel ah, I see. Big casts are hard to wrangle. Let me think…
This might be totally wild and not right, but what about a Kapeefer civil war? Like, one side isn’t necessarily “bad;” it would be more like a capture the flag sort of thing. Like they’re competing for something…maybe to see who will get special sword-fighting lessons from King Daeus? 😉

@dekreel nice xD
Oh, I’m sorry! That can be frustrating 😛 Hm…what was the original premise/plot that you had?

I was afraid that might happen 😛 Let me try to summarize the story best I remember it:
There was a volley ball match in the Kingdom of Pen. Everyone was invited. We were all supposed to make epic entrances before we began playing. I was terrified, because I’m HORRIBLE at volleyball, so I was hesitating at my entrance. I’d brought my trusty cape…[Read more] -

It’s in here: https://kingdompen.org/forums/topic/introduce-yourself-and-volleyball-2/ That’s where my cape makes a mess of things. The story was never finished in there (I acted out the rest when I was daydreaming one day 😉 ), and I think I lost my sword in one of the writers’ corners. I can’t remember which one though 😛

I couldn’t access it…. So when you said “The Evil Overlord” stole them, did you mean Michael Stanton?

@dekreel sure! I think I can find it… it’s back when there was a marketing group for KP, so I’m not sure if the thread is still there, but I’ll look 🙂

@dekreel yes. Finish Narnia first 😉
Besides that, C.S. Lewis’ sci-fi trilogy is said to be good (I have the first book but I haven’t begun it yet). Then…
– Ilyon Chronicles, by Jaye L. Knight: great fantasy novels with a historical twist, and with the most tortured character you’ll ever meet.
– Blades of Acktar, by Trish Mingerink: they’re…[Read more] -

Okay, so I’m reading the Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis for the first time. Needless to say, it’s amazing.
But I’m stuck on the third ghost (I think) that the narrator watches in the Valley of the Shadow of Life. It’s the ghost who tries to steal one of the apples, then the waterfall tells him to put it down, that he can’t take it back to Hell, yet…[Read more]

@emily Ah, yes, the middle. *glares at my arch nemesis* 😛
I think you’re going to find your answer by looking at the ending. What’s the plot resolution? What is the character resolution? What does your character learn at the end? Then, you can compare that to what you have at the start, and work backwards until you’re at the beginning. I think…[Read more]
