@kate-flournoy Both of those look great! Have you thought about what the reaction sequences would look like for both of those action sequences?
@audrey-caylin That’s a fantastic question. Like @daeus said, I think a good rule of thumb is that a scene ends whenever you have a scene break or chapter break, but scenes can sometime extend over scene…[Read more]

@anna-brie Looks like a good solid base there for what looks like 2 similar but distinct character arcs on the importance of community and on how to relate between genders properly. Nice work!

@anna-brie Examples and messages are both great potential catalysts! Repetition is a great way of helping characters to change.

@anna-brie That makes a lot of sense. Sometimes (probably most of the time, now that I think about it), God’s sanctifying process is slow and gradual, so it can take some work to see how God has been changing you over the course of several years. And it certainly works differently for personalities as well! That may be something to keep in mind…[Read more]

@audrey-caylin Alright; finally getting around to giving you feedback on this. xD And yes, a “climax of a climax” is an actual thing. xD Different writers call it different things, though. Weiland calls it the ‘climactic moment.’
Anyways, onto thoughts on the story. It sounds like Method #2 that’s being utilized since the protagonist is aware of…[Read more]

Develop at least three different antagonists who will challenge the protagonist on his initial Experiment in Living. It’s fine if one of these antagonists is your story’s villain. We’ll just be developing that character on in the next lesson. Figure out what positions each of them represent. Finally, decide for each antagonist if they’re going t…[Read more]

Think of two different antagonists in literature who work really well as antagonists and who are also NOT the story’s villain. Then figure out how these villains are connected to the story’s overall theme and then post your results here!

Thanks for the input everyone! It looks like the best option is going to be February 24th from 3-4 PM EST, so we’re going to be scheduling the Q&A for that. I’ll be sending out an email the day before with a webinar link, and will also make sure to post a link in this thread! Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible there. 🙂
And to…[Read more]

@rachelle If you can do one hour per day, I think that’s an awesome pace to keep up consistently! A large part of how much time you should spend depends on other activities; if you’re able to spend more time on your writing, that will of course help out a lot, but sometimes it’s difficult to even find even that much time. I have the same goal of…[Read more]

@ethryndal Looks good then. Two recommendations. The first would be to make sure that she’s being shown her resolution paradigm that God gives people worth all throughout the character arc even though she won’t accept it till the end, just to make sure it doesn’t come from out of left-field but flows naturally from the story. The second would be…[Read more]

@jenali Those are good thoughts. Figuring out how characters would react to situations that aren’t in the book is a great way of exploring their more extreme emotions and getting a better grasp on their personality.

@jenali Good set of experiments there. They normally should be similar to the answers to your focusing question, so that’s no problem here! Great depiction of what it looks like when you try to endure without God’s strength. Like I mentioned with Audrey (see my comment to her post to read my full explanation), you’ll want to also consider the…[Read more]

@ethryndal Great thoughts, and I absolutely agree. Since James 1:2-4 is accurate for our Christian lives, we should be applying its principles to storytelling as well.
