I finally went and did this again. It’s a little incoherent because I still haven’t separated my two main themes. but hopefully it makes some kind of sense. I’m particularity uncertain on the resolution
@aratreaCharacteristic moment: Natalia is ridiculing or flirting with some young men. Refuses to see any of the as marriage prospects.

@daeus
It’s probably my fault that it went missing. I’ve lost comments before, but not without realizing. I just don’t feel like taking the time to write it again. I should. but there’s so many other things to do. -

I’m sure I posted something here. I just came to use it as a reference point for the story structure assignment. What happened to it?

Anna Brie replied to the topic Discussion for Video Eight: Flat Character Arc in the forum Discussion Questions 7 years, 9 months ago
@aratrea I’m just checking that we’re talking about the same books. That’s Resistance, etc. by Jaye L. Knight. Only 3 out of the promised six books are published.
There’s other major character that definite positive arcs, so it’s not a purely flat arc story by any means. Now that’s something that certainly complicates thinking about character…[Read more]

I can think of quite a number of people who I look up too and are trying to change the world around them. But I’m not going to name names.
However I’ll mention one of my favourite fictional characters and role models. Kyrin Altair from The Ilyon Chronicles. Her arc is mostly flat. She has her faith, it puts her in danger, but she holds onto it…[Read more]

@aratrea I was starting to realize that there were two closely combined arcs.

So I was going to do this on the trickier of two stories, but I got logged out and lost it when I tried to post. So I’ll do the easier one. (Which is the story I have writers block with.)
Beginning: My protagonist needs to marry, she also needs a whole lot of help, but she is disillusioned with the men around. She proceeds to either belittle them…[Read more]

I’d have to say something similar to Hope.
I hear a message, or read something multiple times and it starts to get to me. Or someone’s example encourages me to change. -

I don’t feel that I’ve made any major changes in my life. The biggest one was when I started writing and that was just started by me getting an idea of something to write. Others changes just are from exposure to new ideas and experiences along with the effects of growing up.
Mot that I’m saying I haven’t changed at all, it’s just been slow. I…[Read more]

Monday, February 27th is the only day that would work well for us with timezones. The other days are 7 am on Saturday and Sunday morning. I think we could just manage it though.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Homework for Video 3: Discovering & Deepening Theme in the forum Writing Assignments 7 years, 9 months ago
I’ll try again basing it off my experiments in living. (kind of backwards, but if it works, it works) I’m not overly worried about this book because even if I can’t put the theme into words very well, I know what I’m trying to communicate.
Theme: RighteousnessFQ: What makes an action right?

@Audrey-caylin I’d love to beta read for you. I’m trying to get editing experience. I’m unlikely to get it done in that time frame though. Not something of that length.

@aratrea I can see #1 was a bit unclear. I put too much of the characters justification into it because he’s very good at deceiving himself. I’ll try rephrasing it more accurately.
Always put you own advantage first, be willing to work with anyone you can get something useful in return. Don’t commit strongly to one path and always keep your eye…[Read more]

I’m noticing that all the experiments in living I come up with for this book are ways of making moral choices. Maybe that’s the key to my theme. I’m not sure if they’re all quite the thing I should be going for, but they are what is going on in the book.
1) Being an a good situation yourself is the starting point to helping others. Do everything…[Read more]

The main way I understand my characters id by figuring out their motivations or beliefs. Most of them have a bit of me in them. Otherwise I borrow characteristics from other authors characters. I find it fairly easy to figure out how most of my characters think. That’s probably part of me as an ENFP. I can imagine the emotions they would have.

So we’re going onto the next lesson with just my themes figured out.
@Daeus @Aratrea I made another attempt at figuring out the theme for Girl of the Rumours. There’s certainly another theme coming in at the end, atonement I think, but it’s hard to unwind the answers from one another.
Theme: I’m starting to think it might be righteousness (or…[Read more]

I have a HP Pavilion that 7 years old so not much information there. Except that 7 years ago they made computers that last okay. It’s not all that great, runs slowly now and windows won’t run updates.
However there’s several Toshibas in the house that seem pretty good and my brother, who’s a software engineer and really cares about the specs of…[Read more]

Anna Brie replied to the topic Discussion for Video Two: The Importance of Theme in the forum Discussion Questions 7 years, 9 months ago
She does. I am a devoted reader of her books. Today I had to send Outlining Your Novel back to the library because I’d maxed out the renewal limit. It’s probably the third time I’ve done that. So since I want a copy of Creating Character Arcs I though I might as well buy both.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Discussion for Video Three: Discovering & Deepening Theme in the forum Discussion Questions 7 years, 9 months ago
@aratrea I think it’s two closely linked themes. There’s certainly minor themes in the book as well. i’ve tried analyzing its structure and that’s difficult as well.
