Anna Brie replied to the topic The Notepad of Brainstorming in the forum Stewards of the Pen 7 years, 5 months ago
I might be able to do this. I’m really hoping to get to a homeschooling conference this year and I know a couple of other Australian KeePers (not Stewards) should be there. If it happens I’ll try to remember to be prepare to promote KP.

I have. We’ve got Warrior Scarlet, The Eagle of the Ninth and The Rider of the White Horse. I’ve gotten most of the books connected to The Eagle of the Ninth from the Library. The Rider of the White Horse is my favourite.

Brie wakes up with a Jerk and almost falls off the wall she’d been sitting one. She glances around and when no one is in sight she sprints inside.
Upon reaching the the volley ball court she slows down and sneaks in along the wall. Hopefully no one will nice how late she was.Sorry for going AWOL.

Brie steps off the train and casts a wary glance around. That castle looks rather imposing so she sits down on a low wall and pules a book out of her wonderful, expanding bag of stuff. Hopefully someone else will turn up before long so she doesn’t have to face the Dark Lord on her own.

Anna Brie replied to the topic ARCHIVED – Homework for Video 10: Theme & Scene Structure in the forum Writing Assignments 7 years, 7 months ago
I found this one a little tricky. My draft is a complete mess. I ended up choosing two scenes focusing more on an aspect of the story I hadn’ty mentioned before. The role sister play in their being men worth marrying.
Scene #1
Action:
Natalia has just left on a ship as sees a well-dressed boy running around on the ship. She knows he ought not be…[Read more] -

I forgot this was on. The email would have come through in the middle of the night and even if I hadn’t slept late I wouldn’t have seen it until at least halfway through the Q&A.
On the upside I managed to get some writing done yesterday even though it was past my bedtime. -

@aratrea
I’s actually a little more relevant in those points that I’m bringing out. It’s hard to choose the right details to summarize the story. I was going for simplicity over detail. -

My plot points and character arc points aren’t lining up as well as I’d like. I suspect that is because T have big blank spots in the middle of the story that makes some of the pacing a bit uncertain. Also the theme relates more to the smaller details of the plot an to character relationships than it does to the big action.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Discussion for Video Twelve: Foil Characters in the forum Discussion Questions 7 years, 7 months ago
I’m quite familiar with the idea of foils, but I’m having a little trouble of thinking of examples outside of my own writing.
I’ve come up with one. Elanor and Marianne Dashwood. Pretty obvious example. The title itself calls attention to it.
I’ll probably be back with more once I’ve thought about it a bit longer.

Anna Brie replied to the topic MBTI in the forum Characters 7 years, 7 months ago
I tried doing an MBTI test for the MC of my current WiP. I’ve decided I’ll have to wait until I’ve written a significant amount more. I wasn’t sure what answer to give for half the questions and she came out as an ESTJ which I know is wrong.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Finished! in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 7 months ago
I’ve always liked the idea of doing an extended outline, but never given myself enough time. Usually I have the main point I want to hit, some idea of other events in the later part of the book,a list of the events in the first third and a detailed plan for the first few scenes.
I try to add details as i go along, but it doesn’t happen…[Read more] -

I just realized that I was getting daylight savings change all backwards and I’ll have to get at 6 am, not 8 am. I can probably still do it though as I usually wake up at 6. And I can do any day.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Theme Mastery Q&A #2 in the forum Theme Mastery 7 years, 7 months ago
I don’t really have a preference. The 14th might be less of an interruption since it’ll be Saturday morning, not a week day, but now that daylight savings has ended, it’s not so early we couldn’t do it another day.

Anna Brie replied to the topic G.K. Chesterton in the forum Book Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
@northener That’s a great point. Also talking about death is one of the best ways of talking about life. This kind of detective story is a great place to get into deep things.

Anna Brie replied to the topic G.K. Chesterton in the forum Book Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
I haven’t read any G. K. Chesterton novels yet, but we did listen to all of The Innocence of Father Brown while on holiday. Now that is fun. Extremely clever. Not all of the stories are funny (there are dead bodies about), but they way they are told makes it impossible to not laugh.
And then there are little gems of thought about man and God. -

@willow-wispowing I’m not sure I knew you were on here Clare.

Anna Brie replied to the topic Magic in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
This is something I’ve thought about a bit and I think the problem with magic is seeking supernatural power or knowledge from a source other than God. Because if it doesn’t come from God, it comes from evil.
However, the thing that allows certain types of magic in fantasy is the word ‘supernatural’. In a made up world, you can have things we…[Read more]

I’ve got too many recommendations.
Ilyon Chronicles by Jaye L. Knight
Blades of Acktar series by Tricia Mingerink.
Finding Angel by Kat Heckenbach
Tales of Taelis series by Sarah Holman
Annabeth’s War and Captive of Raven Castle by Jessica Greyson. - Load More
The Gammage Cup, by Carol Kendall
I just finished reading that a couple weeks ago, and can’t stop raving about it. Fantasy. No romance. No horror. Just a lovely, light read.
