Aislinn Mollisong replied to the topic The Elements of Elemental Cliche… in the forum Fantasy 6 years, 10 months ago
@warrioroftherealm I’m using elementals. I think they are only cliche if you have the protagonist and antogonist (or the two main protagonists) have opposing powers, such as fire and ice. If they have powers that don’t really clash, such as fire+earth and wind+water like my MCs do, it isn’t as overused. My villain doesn’t even have powers, which…[Read more]

@sam-kowal Ehhh….they kinda can’t be forbidden, as they are the national animal and almost everyone has one. But! That could come in handy in the third book! Especially because he’s the Dragon-boy….*rubs hands together evilly*

@gabbyj I agree with @princessfoo and @notawriter. But.
I have an addition. So, she believes the best about people. Is very cheerful and optimistic. But then something happens. Someone betrays her, or she leaves her safe, happy home and finds out just how scary a place the world is. Her worldview is entirely flipped. She now trusts no one, and…[Read more]

@sam-kowal Yes, all dragons should be like Stan. Stan is the best. 😉 That’s actually a really good idea with the Dulaman. I’m trying my very hardest not to make them Orcs but….ya know. If they did have something that would make them a bigger threat, (such as being able to neutralize dragons) they would be a lot better as henchmen in general.…[Read more]

Thanks guys! But I feel like I forgot to explain some things. Sorry. (Oh, the problems of explaining…)
One of the reasons they need the dragons for basically the whole story is that the barriers between the countries can ONLY be traversed by dragons. This is important because the rigid separation between the countries is integral to the…[Read more]

Hey, KeePers! I have a problem.
You know that feeling when you are plotting your book, almost have it all worked out, and feel like you can ACTUALLY do it, and then you realize you have a plot hole that could destroy the whole story?
I sure do. Here’s my problem;
In Embers Burning, my two main characters Amber and Brendan must travel through…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Uh…I can’t email Kingdom Pen. Every time I try to email them, (and only them, I might add) my computer crashes for some strange and unknown reason.
So….can we figure something else out? I can give you my email, if that would work better.
