@LifeofKatie mm… though see now, I’m not entirely sure that was wrong, in Aragorn’s case.
Hm.
*raises eyebrows* Clearly I still have some thinking to do. 😛 -

@His-Instrument excellent example. I’ll just point back to what I said in my first post about consequences for every action, good and bad. Did Jean Valjean save Cosette’s life by assuming a name (and history) that was not his own? Possibly. Very probably.
Could God have saved her life anyway if Valjean had told the absolute truth? Yes.…[Read more] -

@His-Instrument yeah. What he said.

@His-Instrument great questions.
My first thought is that comparing the practice of using an alias to protect one’s life to pretending madness is a little extreme. For one, your name is not who you are. It’s just what people call you. ‘By their fruit you shall know them’, not ‘by their name’.
That said, I believe it’s a fair question and…[Read more] -

@That_Writer_Girl_99 which one?

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Theme in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 6 months ago
@Allison-Grace *sniffs* They already said it all.
I’ll just second what @Daeus said; you can have as many themes as you think will work, so long as they’re all related and complement each other. For instance, if your primary theme is honesty, your supporting themes could be telling the truth in love and/or telling the truth even when it’s ugly.…[Read more] -

@Dragon-Snapper *looks at crazy people and pretends she never does this herself, ever* Welp, I’m late. But the one thing I have to add is pretty boring anyway.
Practice.
Don’t just practice, observe. Begin picking style apart and figuring out what makes it tick. Read books whose style you like, then dissect it and find out why. Become a style…[Read more] -

@belegteleri (I moved the conversation here 🙂 ) Europe! How exciting! Where all did you go while there?
-
London, Paris, and Bayeux, a city in Normandy, close to all the D-Day beaches 🙂
-
It was a lot of fun
-
Aaaannnnnnd I left out a period in that last sentence. 10/10.
-
@belegteleri Whoa! Slightly jealous! 🙂 Did you see any cool castles?! That’s what I’d love to see if I ever get over there someday. Oh, and I meant to ask if you’re working on writing a book right now?
-
@rolena-hatfield Aside from the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, we didn’t see any other castles or anything that similar, since we were in the city. We didn’t have time to go outside the major cities 🙁
As for working on a book, I haven’t written much in the last few months, although I’m starting to get my ‘writerly itch’ back and I hope…[Read more]

@princessfoo Hey there! Can I just say how glad I am that you’ve been apart of the KP community. 🙂 (even if you are just now introducing yourself :p, better late than never, right?)
What would be the top two fantasy books you’d recommend reading? (I’m not much of a fantasy reader, but I like to read out of my favorite genres so I’d love some…[Read more] -

@Daughteroftheking ooh, that’s wacky, but I like it! Great points already so far… I’ll just add that it might not be such a bad thing for the reader to think Rori’s a little off her rocker. As @Catwing said, it gives a curiosity factor.
But if your concern is believe-ability and the reader taking your story as a story seriously, I’m afraid…[Read more] -

@Joy oooh… what I like about that is it has a ton of thematic potential. I’m not quite sure about the revisionism, from a historical standpoint, and if it was me I would probably create a fantasy or scifi world and then do the story with obvious parallels to the Civil War, but there are a lot of writers that can pull off things I’d be scared to…[Read more]
