“THE RABBIT HOLE NEVER ENDS, TOM.”
Hiya peeps. Â In this lovely episode of Kingdom Pen Radio, we have the equally lovely Sarah Spradlin in studio to talk about the Christian sub-genre known as Allegory. Â And, of course, we can’t leave it at that, so we outline our own. Â It’s pretty crakalakin.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
- Sarah’s favorite allegories
- Happy Endings vs Sad Endings (Editor’s Note: Thanks Sarah for using my story as a negative example. Glad I could help!)
- Elements of allagory and themescape
- Fantasy as an allegorical medium
- What an Alien* Noah’s Ark would look like

*We of course definitely and wholeheartedly believe in tolerance here at Kingdom Pen, and therefore we believe all alien races to be equal. All alien races appearing in this imaginative work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real alien races, living or extinct, is purely coincidental.
Sorry, Reagan. You’re my favorite boss ever. 😀
Heh heh heh.
Great job guys! I really liked this one. 🙂 My brothers are excited about the new loot crate ad especially. They’re already starting on another lego movie…. in other words, yes, Daniel, you should keep making creepy-voice ads. 😛
And for my title:
“Make thee a spaceship”
I’ll probably think of something else later to add as well, but that’s it for now.
Maybe the prize t-shirt should say “No Rock Angels”. XD
Alrighty then, more Lootcrate it is. XD
Thanks for the title!
Oh gosh. That would be a great t-shirt. Not sure if we’re gonna have time to do that, buuuuuuut . . . I’ll see. 😛
Alright Daniel. I’ve got three.
.Escape From The Planet Of Destruction
.When The Wall Says Flee
.No Allien Left Behind
By the way, did you notice that right after talking about not writing stories with the world at stake, you immediately outlined a plot where the world was at stake? I really liked the plot though. I guess there are exceptions.
THAT . . . is terribly ironic and I did not notice in fact. XD I mean, that concept doesn’t really apply to allegories so much, unless you took the allegory and scaled down ITS stakes, which isn’t a terrible idea in of itself. I think also, to a degree, we did this by giving Nowah the anxiety attacks. That really takes all the spectacle down to a personal level, and it’s one of the things that excites me most about the idea, just because it makes the character’s struggle a lot more intense than Russell Crow standing before the crashing waves with a hatchet looking over the destruction.
Yeah, the panic attacks were a stroke of genius.
I really love the idea, yeah, thanks.
Daniel, you said that I should annoy you on social media. I am trying to decide if I should take you at
your word or not….:)
I really enjoyed this podcast. Like I enjoy
all the podcasts. 🙂 I really like allegories as well, and I thought the scifi allegory was a good idea! People should do more of them.
Can’t wait till the next pod cast!
Shaina
Welp, that’s what it’s there for. XD
Yeah, the sci-fi allegories, or any genre other than fantasy for allegory really, is an idea that I think really has some potential. I’d love to see someone jump on it. It’s something I’m considering, of course, but it’s less my personal style.
The next one is purty great; you’ll dig it.
This was great. XD
My title: Of Arks and Aliens
Awesome! Thank you! *needs to start writing down all these names somewhere* 😛
*hands you a silver Sharpie and a stack of seven scarlet sticky notes*
Oh bless you. XD
I’ll keep you posted as to when you have officially destroyed my constitution by making me laugh too hard. And I’ll send you the hospital bill.
My name is Renaldo, and I live in Nepal.
Riiiiiiight. Nice try, Daniel.
BUT WHAT IF IT’S TRUE.
YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW.
Oh my goodness! You’re right.
Now I’m scared.
I’ve been trying to sign up for the forum, but have not received my password. On another note, my title ideas are “Nowah’s New Home” or “Faith that Moves Spaceships”. Keep up the great work!
Oh ho ho! I like that “Faith that Moves Spaceships” one.
I’m sure the KP people will be jumping on your password bit soon (here that guys? Jump on this thing soon. :P).
Yep, I got my password! Glad to be part of Kingdom Pen.
l Just wanted to say that the story of Space Noah was an idea of absolute genius. Someone please start writing that book (or I will).
Also, the lootcrate advertisement was… er…well… I alternated between laughter and wide eyed shivering. I can’t imagine anything more terrifying than finding Shia Labeouf in my fridge. Ok, maybe I can, but I best not get into detail there.
Well thank’ee. 😀
It would truly be terrifying. O.O
Very amusing podcast; something to look forward to on Mondays. 😀
Titles have fled my mind at the moment…oh wait.
-Concerning Planetary Explosions and Space Ducks
-Spaceship Safe Haven [though that’s like the cheesiest title ever……hmm.]
-Starlight of Promise
-Graffiti of Hope
Keep up the good work, Daniel!
Well I’m glad you think so! Thanks for the titles!
I think my favourite part about this whole podcast was when you yelled “NOOO!!!! NO ROCK ANGELS!!” Anyway I don’t really have a title…but maybe “Nahwah (however you’re supposed to spell that): Of Alien Humanoids” so that way it very subtly spells NOAH if you take the first letter of each word.
Yeah, I’m going to say “Nahwah” would probably the the right spelling. Maybe “Nowah”, I dunno. XD OH! It’s an alien name! So we actually need a bunch of unnecessary apostrophes and special characters around the name to make it look sci-fi. How silly of me to have forgotten.
And that title gets cool points for subtlety.
I love these! The story was awesome, someone really should write it!
Title ideas:
The Fall of Reathe (a play on the word ‘earth’)
Nowah
From Here to There: A Space Tale
My People Called Me Foolish: The Comedic Tale of Nowah
You know, the more I think about it, the more I’m considering it. 😛
Thank’ee! We’ll be announcing title winners before too long. 😀
This may be too late, but regardless, here you go.
Title: One Hope, One Spaceship, Many Fears
I really enjoyed this podcast! Sarah, you seem really cool and I would TOTALLY read your book (Kingsblade).
Also, this steampunk version of Noah’s Ark is purely epic… I do hope one of you writes this. 😛
I agree with you about the down-scaling worldwide importance thing. I get so tired of shows, movies, and books that are constantly focused on the big picture, and greatest stakes. Why does EVERYONE need saving EVERY time? What about one person, or one family, or one town? I like that better.
“The Choosing: a Seer Novel” by Rachelle Dekker, is a dystopian, allegory-type novel. It’s a bit of a murder mystery too. (Triple win!) I highly recommend it!
Allegorical sci fi is fantastic!
Alien animals! Whoo! I love it:)
Graffiti! Y’all are the best.
Anxiety attacks?!
No rock angels?
Yes!
I would totally read this. Please write it!
