So I’ve been looking at different writing softwares out there…I was wondering which ones you guys use? I’m looking for something free and off the web, and am currently considering Quoll Writer, Atomic Scribbler, and Wavemaker. I’ve been using Microsoft Word and spiral notebooks for a pretty long time, but since I’m planning on writing longer works out on the pc first instead of by hand, I want to find something that’ll be easy for me to look over things.
Tagging a few peeps…

@devastate-lasting I started out using an old version of Word on my mom’s computer, but when I got my laptop several years back, I ended up downloading LibreOffice. Per the name, it’s completely free, offline, doesn’t take up too much space, etc. I LOVE it! The layout is leagues better than Word, and–to me–it’s easier to operate. If you’ve been using Word for a while, it’ll take a moment to get used to LibreOffice, but most everything is the same place and works the same way–just better. 😉 I don’t dare use anything else.
What does everyone else use?
December 4, 2020 at 11:06 am #87669@devastate-lasting I would recommend Scrivener, but that’s not a free software. Hmm…I use Google Docs quite a bit as well, which has worked out pretty well.

I used Microsoft Word for years. I eventually stopped using it because, turns out, Word doesn’t like 100,000 plus words, which is fair. It’s still a great program and I use it for writing articles, short stories and essays.
For my novels, I now use Scrivener. Like Jenna said, it’s not free but it’s 100% worth the money, and it’s just a one time fee. You can do a free trial for thirty days, which is what I did, and then I brought the program using the code I got from winning NaNoWriMo one year, which meant I got it half price. So despite it not being free, it’s not hugely expensive and I would argue its the best writing software out there.

December 5, 2020 at 7:20 am #87695@gracie-j I’ll be sure to check out LibreOffice, thank you!
@jenwriter17 @seekjustice Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll probably look for a free alternative for Scrivener, because I have heard a lot of good things about it.Lately, it's been on my brain

#ProtectSebDecember 9, 2020 at 1:31 pm #87759I use good ol’ google docs. Because of the simplicity and I can easily share docs with my siblings. But I’ve heard a lot of good things about Scrivener and been wanting to try it out for a while.

@devastate-lasting Have you checked out LibreOffice? Did you find any software that meets your needs?
December 9, 2020 at 7:41 pm #87763@kathleenramm Nice; I use Google docs a lot as well.
@gracie-j I just downloaded LibreOffice, and am excited to try it out! I also downloaded Quoll Writer; it seems very close to a free alternative to Scrivener. Thanks for the suggestion!
