Yes, Mr. Brocklehurst is absolutely horrible. I often wish I could shake some sense into a character, but it is very rare that I mentally strangle them. The way he twisted Scripture made me furious, not to mention his other crimes. Ugh!
*Realizes I was screaming*
*Calms down*
Anyway…
As for your question, Lydia, I just liked how she seemed to have found her place, what with her cousins and teaching the little school. However, when her cousin started to make her do stuff, I wanted her to leave, so I was definitely pleased with her taking the reigns as she did.
I think I was also disturbed by his immorality. It wasn’t untill he had changed that I felt they should get married. Also, he really didn’t understand Jane, and was a bit selfish. He just needed to grow some. Which since he did change, so I enjoyed the end.

March 10, 2022 at 6:56 pm #109479@elishavet-pidyon Ugh, I have wanted to mentally strangle characters before. It means I REALLY don’t like them; a villain character I like may find himself in a redemption arc in one of my many fanfics.

March 11, 2022 at 1:37 pm #109492Exactly! XD
Although, I don’t think I’ve ever tried redeeming a villain. Probably because they usually die in the end of the original series.

March 12, 2022 at 12:57 pm #109540@elishavet-pidyon Yeah, sometimes I have to get around that too…. But I make it work. Only a few characters have gotten that treatment, though.

March 18, 2022 at 6:29 pm #109573Yeah, I’m a big fan of the classics! I take a pretty intense literature program, so I get to read a lot of them. 🙂 Some of the ones we’ve read this year are Don Quixote, Paradise Lost, Frankenstein (that was quite the book), and Robinson Crusoe. Last year, we did Shakespeare (among other stuff, including The Once and Future King), which I really enjoyed. School aside, I’m a big fan of Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, L.M. Montgomery, Tolkien, Lewis, etc. 😀 Hbu?
March 18, 2022 at 6:49 pm #109574Oh my goodness, YES!!!!! The way he twisted the Bible made me so mad… Like you said, I wanted to throttle him. *facepalm*
Those are all really good points! I agree that Rochester wasn’t ready for marriage until he’d changed (Side note: their reunion was incredibly sweet). St. John certainly contrasted him! Honestly, I really wanted to like St. John, but his views of Christianity painted God as a taskmaster, only happy when His children were suffering… I would’ve liked to see what would’ve happened if he’d developed true feelings for Jane. (I want to believe he had a heart underneath all of that emotionless rock. :P) But then again, I’m that case, we would never have had the beautiful ending scenes between Jane and Rochester, and that would have been a tragedy. 😉
March 18, 2022 at 9:43 pm #109576@lydia-s Nice, nice! I’m quite in love with Steinbeck and Dostoyvesky, throw in some Ray Bradbury and Dickens here and there, and there are so many more titles I’ve been meaning to read. Your literature program sounds fun! I’ve been meaning to take one at some point, haha.
Lately, it's been on my brain
Would you mind letting me know

Hey y’all! I’m just popping on for a moment to let y’all know that I recently opened up an opportunity on my blog for people to ask me anything about my current WIP, Where Faith Remains. If anyone here wants, you can submit questions, too! No pressure, though, of course. 🙂 Here’s the link if you’re interested.

March 21, 2022 at 8:52 pm #109598I figured it was about time I hop on here XD I’ve been meaning to, but you know, life XD
Hey guys and gals!!! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Daisy and I have a free serial out on my website right now called Smoke and Mirrors, which is an Urban Fantasy, Enemies-to-Lovers, clean, adventure novel of currently 80k words (some of which are not on my blog yet, but I update every Sunday at the moment!)
Smoke and Mirrors has been my absolute favorite novel to write so far. I’ve fallen in love with my charries, and I’ve had a lot of awesome people reading it and cheering me on (or helping me dig my way out of holes XD) which has really made the journey so much nicer!
With that all said, what are some of y’all’s favorite tropes in writing?? Any key elements you’re excited to put in your stories?

March 23, 2022 at 5:32 pm #109610Hi! I have randomly hopped on.
@joy-caroline
I’ll have to check that out. =)
(Wondering how in the world you’re going to wrap up SaM.)
Favorite tropes? I’m not sure yet. I love absolutely crushing my main carries deep into the ground (but not like most authors), then redeeming them/making something beautiful of their story. (Ok, maybe like quite a few, but not most of the ones I’ve read)
Key elements…besides themes… Perhaps the world building and cultures. I’ve spent quite some time developing them, and yet they keep growing deeper. I’m not sure how several of them will turn out in the finished manuscript, but I’m enjoying them.

Fork the GorkMarch 23, 2022 at 6:56 pm #109611@koshka (Pfft same XD I have a few plans, but we’ll see where that goes)
Ahhh yesss. Charry crushing is so much fun, isn’t it XD
Oh that’s cool!! I’m trying to get myself better at world building and cultures. It’s not my least favorite thing about writing, but it’s not entirely my favorite either XD

Especially when the reader doesn’t see it coming. Bwahaha!
Yeah, I wasn’t sure I liked it either untill I started researching some stuff, then it sort of exploded. XD For instance, one of my kingdoms uses a lunar calendar, but when I started working it out I got carried away, so now there’s a separate calendar for each of my different…er…’peoples’.

You will love what you spend time with.
