Hello! Mind if I join?
I have a question for you all. I’m working on writing a story for one of my homework assignments and I am stuck on a specific question. My character in the story has a passionate and fiery spirit, and will act without thinking when he sees injustice. This is a great strength of his, but he needs to learn to use wisdom on how and when to act. He needs to “harness” his passion, and learn how to control it instead of it controlling him.
I need to put him in a situation where he sees some sort of injustice and acts out of anger, to show that he needs to learn to use wisdom. Basically, he needs to do the right thing, but go about it in the wrong way. Does anyone have any ideas on what the situation could be? How could he react to it to show that his passion for justice is good, but that he needs to use wisdom on how and when to react? Does anyone have any thoughts? (And does that make sense?) 🙂 Thank you!

May 5, 2017 at 2:31 pm #32446@winter-rose Medieval times. It is set in my own world so I do have a bit more freedom, but I am writing more realistically and not fantasy.
Thank you! I’m going to put him in my WIP this summer when I have more time to write. 🙂
May 5, 2017 at 2:43 pm #32447@delightinlife Well, I really don’t know enough about the story to be of any help in what sort of situation it could be. But as far as his reaction; how about anger? Anger at the injustice—not a bad thing—but it makes him explode when he should have behaved quietly and calmly.

@daeus Bye!
@delightinlife It could be some social injustice where a person is condemning or judging another inaccurately, and instead of addressing the issue tactfully, your MC fly’s into a passion (I’m picturing that in some sort of gathering place like a church where the MC manages to offend or hurt the entire group of people). Or perhaps your MC starts a fight over an issue so small it’s not worth it.
I’m not really coming up with anything unique. I think I may need a few more details. What’s the story about? Does your character need to learn to discern between a fight he actually must fight or a fight he needs to walk away from? Does he need to learn tact and gentleness?May 5, 2017 at 2:58 pm #32450@winter-rose @ethryndal Thank you for your help! Yes, I think I am going to have him react in anger. I just emailed my English teacher and she suggested going off the idea in the Bible where Moses kills the Egyptian. I liked that suggestion and actually was thinking of it already. I’ll just have to be careful to not make it the same as another book I read.
I think I have some ideas! Thanks! 🙂

@DelightinLife I’m glad you figured it out. @Ethryndal I’m done for now. I need a nap (or caffeine, either one). I sent off two emails, outlined a blog post, and deleted some old unpublished blog posts. See you guys!
May 5, 2017 at 3:08 pm #32452I shall say farewell now. I edited about 2 chapters, or 20 pages. Adios!
