@rochellaineย Hello, old friend!! I shall forgive your calling me “little wolf” because I miss you. ๐
*blinks*ย Oh, I’m alive. I’m alive all right. Albeit distant. Yeah, let’s call it that: Alive yet distant. 0.o
I’m doing fine. School’s been killing me and I’m really bad with procrastinating. . . But. . . yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. How’ve you been?
You can pronounce it however you want.

Procrastination is the best…and the worst.ย Right? ๐
I’m doing pretty well.ย I have some interesting subjects in law school this year, so I’m enjoying that.
How’s your writing coming along?ย And how is Story Embers?ย I assume you knew already, but I just found out a few days ago that I am the single, sole person left here who hasn’t joined SE. ๐ฎ

Hey guys. Will be around for a while today.
September 15, 2018 at 10:26 pm #76723@rochellaineย That’s a great way of putting it. . .
My writing is. . . okay. . . I’m considering writing a steampunk novel sometime in the future. Maybe a steampunk retelling of Gone with the Wind. That would be cool.
I’m not on Story Embers as often as I should, so I can’t give a clear answer. What I do know is that it’s thriving.
Wait, really?? You sure? Is Valtmy on SE?
@valtmyย Heya! How’s it going? You can pronounce it however you want.
September 15, 2018 at 10:35 pm #76724September 15, 2018 at 10:41 pm #76725Yes, I am on SE under the same username but I do not go there very often. I hardly have time to come here to KP nowadays, much less SE. ๐
Hey, we didn’t manage to continue our conversation yesterday. So whatย is Yishay’s song anyway?
September 15, 2018 at 10:50 pm #76726@rochellaineย Well, I’m not too fond of Scarlett, but overall, it’s a very well-written, profound book. I love how the author pays attention to detail. The society, the world and the emotions feel so real, it’s nearly palpable. Overall I give it a 6 out of 10.
I need to get off. I might be back later tonight. See you guys later!

September 15, 2018 at 11:03 pm #76727@valtmy Yishay’s song… ๐ย Well, it’s not the whole song.ย I think his feelings are similar to the ending of “Soliloquy” fromย Carousel where the lyrics are “She’s gotta be sheltered and fed and dressed in the best that money can buy…I’ll go out and make it(money) or steal it or take it or die!”
I feel like I’m giving something away, but you already know he’s one of the robbers, so… ๐
@dekreel I have never read the book, but from what I’ve read about it I’ve felt like the themes are jealousy, adultery and destruction, so I’m not that interested in reading it.ย You can try and convince me otherwise when you return (on some unknown, far-off day…) if you like. ๐ย Did you know that the author’s father told her it was some of the worst stuff he’d ever read and if she hadn’t written it he wouldn’t have read it?Well, see you later.ย Hopefully sooner, actually.ย Goodbye… *waves sadly*

September 15, 2018 at 11:21 pm #76728Hello! Are you still around? I’m not working on anything but I’m happy for a chat.
Gone with the Wind is one of the classics I haven’t read. But I’ve never really wanted to, especially as Southern belle type characters tend to put me off. I think its set in the South?

September 15, 2018 at 11:30 pm #76729@seekjustice I’m still here. ๐
What Southern belle characters have you read?ย Elsie Dinsmore? ๐
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
September 15, 2018 at 11:38 pm #76730Elsie Dinsmore and I’ve read about other books, such as Gone with the wind and I also have read things like Lottie Moon. I found her annoying until she went to China.

September 15, 2018 at 11:53 pm #76731Bye!
Haha, yes, it’s obvious. By the way have you figured out what you want to do with that plot point?
The Southern Belle character type suffers a lot of historical baggage. I suppose it has to do with the period in which Southern Belle books were written.
September 15, 2018 at 11:57 pm #76732@seekjustice I see.ย Well…two true-life examples I can think of are Martha Washington and Agnes Lee.ย Martha Washington would probably not be defined as a “Southern belle” since she was Revolutionary era, and the idea of Southern belles started around the time of the Civil War, but she was from the South, and beautiful, and sweet, so I’m counting her.ย Agnes Lee is my favorite.ย She was the daughter of the great Robert E. Lee.ย I read her diary, and it’s one of my favorite books. (Do you like reading diaries of historical figures?)
Generally speaking, there are good and bad Southern belles.ย Basically, it all comes from the idea that Southern women were/are very beautiful, so the only characteristics you need are that she was born below the Mason-Dixon line and that she’s pretty.ย I’ve seen them portrayed as both the sweet ingenue and the stuck-up rich girl. ๐

September 15, 2018 at 11:57 pm #76733Yeah, the stereotype really annoys me, though I don’t really have any idea how much truth is in the stereotype.

September 16, 2018 at 12:02 am #76734@valtmy Hi!ย You’re still here. ๐
Yes, I’ve figured out a plan. Not going to reveal it right now, though. ๐ย My plotting and planning has been going great, but the writing itself is still going slowly. ๐ย Hopefully I’ll have the next section done soon, though.
Do you have any examples of Southern Belles that you like or dislike?
