Yep, still editing. Though I’ll probably disappear for lunch.

May 30, 2018 at 11:42 pm #73460@seekjustice Well, I’ll (hopefully) be here for a while. I’ve got a lot of work to do.
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 31, 2018 at 12:06 am #73462What are you up to? Listening to anything good?
I like the lyrics of that song, by the way, though the style isn’t really my thing. Its a kind of sad song, isn’t it? I like the focus on stars and God though, which is probably why it reminded you of my book 😉

May 31, 2018 at 12:22 am #73463@seekjustice I’ve been listening to a YouTube video which collects thirteen versions of “If I Loved You” from Carousel and asks “who sang it best?” but doesn’t include my favorite version… 😛
Yes, it’s from the late 40s, so it’s kinda too early for you. But, which version did you listen to? It’s been done in a lot of different styles. It is a sad song, and I still can’t decide whether I like it or don’t, since it doesn’t have a resolution but just lets him keep doubting at the end of the song. I guess that’s where he’s supposed to be in the musical, but it’s sad.
Yes, that’s why. I really felt like Justice was singing…except that it doesn’t seem like he’d be caught dead singing (okay, that idiom or whatever it is really doesn’t make any sense there,) but the lyrics seemed to match his emotions during When Infinity is Empty. “A man don’t mind if the stars get dim…as long as the Lord God is watching over him…but sometimes it seems like God’s gone away…and we’re lost out here in the stars…” But you say it reminded me of the book. Did it not seem to you to match?

May 31, 2018 at 12:37 am #73464Oh yeah, I’ve seen those sorts of videos. They can be quite fun!
I don’t know what version it was, it was part of a soundtrack though, rather than just a cover by someone.
I guess it does leave it hanging, he doesn’t receive any sort of guidance or change his mind in anyway.
I don’t know if Justice is a singing sort of person, but I know who he would sound like if he did sing. Well, it did remind me but since you’d already said it reminded you, I listened to it expecting that it would remind me. I don’t know whether it would or not if you hadn’t said that, though it might have because its all about stars. Do you see what I’m saying?

May 31, 2018 at 7:17 am #73465@seekjustice Yeah, I was researching the kind of amnesia where you can’t remember anything after the accident. It appears to be more common than the kind where you forget everything before the injury. I had not heard of it before though because it seems like movies and books use the other kind more. I had also seen a movie recently where this guy has a fistfight with his friend who has amnesia so that he would snap out of it, and I had seriously wondered how often that happened. I read that it happens so rarely its not a good idea, because it had the potential to also make the person worse. I think the way Alec got his memory back, at the climax of the story while he is racing the Black, is more realistic. (And very exiting!)
Okay, sorry for this ramble on amnesia.
And @rochellaine I am sorry I had to leave without telling you yesterday.

May 31, 2018 at 7:35 am #73467Yeah, its incredibly interesting and also very much underused. I actually feel (I’m no expert) that the other type of amnesia doesn’t happen very much, whereas the not remembering things correctly afterward happens quite a lot. You can see it in dementia as well, people with dementia remembering their childhoods really well, but literally not being able to remember anything that’s happened to them lately.
As you can see, I’m fascinated by medical topics.

May 31, 2018 at 7:41 am #73468@seekjustice I agree it is more common but way underused. I don’t yet know which kind I will give my characters, though. Have you researched burns? I was yesterday. My character suffers from some level three burns, and I was finding out what they did in the Middle Ages for burns.
What time is it there?
"In a mask, was he?"
May 31, 2018 at 7:47 am #73469@ariel-ashira I’m a first aid officer, so I’ve researched a lot of different injuries. I do know quite a bit about third degree burns and ouch, in medieval times??? That would be nasty. I don’t know what they did for burns in the Middles ages though. I’m curious to know now 😀
Its 9:45pm. I’m not usually on at this time (because I have a no tech after dinner rule), but I had to finish off a blog post for today and submit a story to a contest that had to be in before midnight, so I’m on a bit later than usual.

May 31, 2018 at 8:01 am #73473@seekjustice These are some things they used:
Honey
Flaxseed/Linseed Oil
Spirit of Turpentine
Aloe
Wine
Cold Water Compress
Lime WaterYou are a first aid officer? I should know what that means…
Well, I am here if you want to chat. It is 7:00 in the morning here, and I am up before everyone else, so I think I can talk for a little while longer.
"In a mask, was he?"
May 31, 2018 at 8:13 am #73474Oh, I should have known the aloe and honey ones. The rest are quite interesting.
Basically it means I take first aid classes every week and I have two first aid certificates.
Ah that’s me too. I often get up at 6ish to write before my family gets up. I’m probably going to go to bed now, but I’ll happily chat tomorrow 🙂

May 31, 2018 at 8:17 am #73476@seekjustice Neat! Seems like that would help when you are a writer. 😀
Okay, goodnight! Tomorrow for you might be tonight for me. 🙂

May 31, 2018 at 8:45 am #73477@ariel-ashira Haha, I can’t mind that you left without telling me yesterday since you can see I did the very same thing to @seekjustice last night! 😛
I see you two had quite the conversation this morning. 😉 Speaking of things they used to do for burns, I don’t know about the middle ages, but I know somewhere around the 1700s-1800s they would put butter on burns, thinking it would help. In the late 1800s doctors found out it was actually bad to put butter on burns, but I think the country folk probably took a bit longer to trust that.
I’m working now, is anyone still here?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 31, 2018 at 8:49 am #73478@rochellaine I am on, but the family is waking up now so I think I will have to go. I read about butter, but I don’t think they did that in the Middle Ages.

May 31, 2018 at 9:04 am #73479@ariel-ashira Okay, goodbye. 🙂
