May 13, 2018 at 11:37 pm #72517@seekjustice Well, I accidentally put two spaces between paragraphs, and being a perfectionist (sometimes?) I decided to edit it to make it look nicer. I guess it deleted after that. 😛

May 14, 2018 at 12:18 am #72520Well some well known ones would be Waltzing Matilda, Click Go the Shears, Down Under, True Blue…basically anything by Lee Kernaghan…all very Australian.
Ah, lucky you. People always seem to be surprised when they find out I’m homeschooled. As if I’m too normal to be homeschooled. Do you ever get the question: Do you have any friends???
Though thinking about it…denim skirts and long hair has some truth to it. I used to have very, very long hair. And I do own one denim skirt.

May 14, 2018 at 12:41 am #72521@seekjustice I didn’t know Waltzing Matilda was an Australian song either! 😮 😛 The title of Click Go the Shears sounds very Australian, though. 😉 I’d love to see a – what do you call it, station? – sometime. We’re more cattle than sheep in America, I think. Thanks for the titles, I’ll look them up!
People don’t find out I’m homeschooled as often now, since I say “I’m in law school” instead of “I’m homeschooled.” I believe I am sometimes thought too normal to be homeschooled, but the majority of the people I meet are Christians right now. When I was younger I did co-ed soccer with a lot of public schoolers, and they thought homeschooling was really cool, instead of weird. Hooray! 😛 I don’t really get the question “do you have any friends” except as a joke from other homeschoolers when we’re making fun of the stereotypes people give us. 😀 Do you ever do that with your friends/siblings? The stereotypes are still there with the older people, but like I said before, most people in America are used to the idea of homeschoolers, though there is a bit of a stigma attached to us in some parts of the country.
Haha, yup. I still have very long hair, and I believe at one point I did own a denim dress…but I can’t even remember what it looked like, now!

May 14, 2018 at 1:29 am #72522Yep, Waltzing Matilda is very much Australian. Its one of Banjo Patterson’s poems that’s been put to music. (Just a note on the other songs/artists, I can’t promise that there isn’t scattered cursing in them, but I think they’re pretty okay for the most part.)
Stations are awesome. And they’re so big I think they would blow your mind, they definitely blew mine the first time I saw one)
I still have a term and a half to go of school, but I think I get the question of where I go to school way more than I used to.
Yes, people ask me all the time if I have any friends, or how I expect to get a job or how I socialise. Its crazy 🙂 My siblings and I make fun of the stereotypes a lot, only this morning I was flapping my arms around weirdly and then explained to my brother that I was an unsocialised homeschooler. And I have told people in fun that I live under a rock and only come out once in a blue moon, and the funniest part is that they usually believe me.
But other people have long hair and (shorter) denim skirts are kind of coming back into fashion, so its not just the homeschoolers 😛

May 14, 2018 at 2:06 am #72523@seekjustice Really? I hardly ever have heard cursing in folk music. But okay, thanks for the warning. 🙂 I’ll proceed with caution.
I remember flapping my arms around weirdly once with two of my, would you know it, homeschooled friends! 😛 We were playing a game in which we had to give crazy lectures on topics which we totally didn’t believe, such as why evolution made so much sense, why the North was so much better than the South in the Civil War, (we happened to be staunch Southern supporters,) and…I think the last topic was actually how awful homeschoolers were! It was hilarious, and a lot of fun!
Anyway, tell your brother that I agree. Flapping your arms around is something that weird homeschoolers do. But it’s actually pretty cool.
Long hair is definitely back in fashion. So much so that new dance moves have been made which you need long hair to do. (No, I do not watch modern dancing. I go to college football – American football – games and see the poms/cheerleaders there dancing, so that’s how I know. 😉 ) And yes, short denim skirts are pretty cute, actually. 😀
But now I’m going to bed. I hope to see you tomorrow! Goodnight!
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 14, 2018 at 4:57 am #72524Well, its folk/country music but I think its mostly okay.
Oh yes, I’ve done that sort of thing before. Its a lot of fun 🙂
Yes they are, though I don’t think I’ve ever worn one. I’m a long skirt or jeans person, but I do like the look of them.
Funny how we use the Writers Corner to discuss fashion, isn’t it? All right 🙂 talk tomorrow!

May 14, 2018 at 10:52 am #72529@jenwriter17 Thank you!!
@rochellaine Do you wear skirts all the time? Also, most northerners think that supporting the south meant supporting slavery. So I will just ask, what do you mean by being a southern supporter? 🙂
@seekjustice You are really helpful for us Americans, too! I have learned more about Australia from you than anywhere else.I saw a really funny video that this guy did once that was talking about like seven different kinds of homeschoolers. There is so many different kinds of them now, it can mean anything from near amish to uneducated rebels. 🙂
Another thing I was going to mention about Americans in general is that we are very assertive of our rights. We have things like the NRA on our gun rights. (Lots of Missourians are avid supporters of the second amendment!) It goes right along with our patriotism and how we value freedom. If you want to stir up Americans, stir up their patriotism and you have their hearts.

May 14, 2018 at 11:35 am #72532@seekjustice Writers’ Corner seems to be the only topic that really survives here anymore. 🙁 I guess we discuss anything and everything here now. 😀
@ariel-ashira All the time except for some sports like zip lines or other aerial things. 🙂 I’m glad that I’m old enough to wear women’s clothes, because it’s a lot easier to find nice looking skirts in the women’s sections than in the girls’ sections of the store. 😛 Do you like wearing skirts?About the Civil War, okay. I would encourage you to do a more extensive study of the topic and then decide which side you believe is more right. That’s a very hard decision, because the South and the North were basically equally bad. 😉 Here’s the run-down:
Before the Civil War the South produced the cotton for the Northern textile mills. The cotton came from plantations which were worked by slaves. Slavery had started to be outlawed in Europe, notably England, and some politicians in America wanted to do the same thing. The South argued that they couldn’t run the cotton plantations without slaves, and that the North was hypocritical in that they didn’t care if the cotton came from slave labor as long as they had the cotton for the mills. It was starting to be politically correct to abolish slavery, though, and the North held firm.
The misunderstanding really arose from the fact that the South viewed the Constitution basically as an agreement of separate States to work together and help each other while the North viewed the states as part of one large country. So when the politicians started trying to make laws against slavery, the South protested that the government did not have the right to do that, and the states were the only ones who could make the laws. I believe that if the government had left it alone, each state would have eventually individually abolished slavery, but the states simply wanted to be able to do it on their own, and not at the command of the United States government.
Since the Southern states began to feel the U.S. government was getting too strong and powerful, they decided to secede and create their own government which was similar to what they believed the original intent of the U.S. government was, just as a union, not as an all-controlling power. They believed the Constitution was a contract which they entered willingly and could get out of willingly. The North could not survive without the South, because they needed the Southern cotton for the textile mills, and they also believed that the government was a country, and the states could not secede legally.
So…what most people who extensively study the subject say, (whether they support the North or the South,) is that the Civil War was a war about States’ Rights, and the fact that the North won decided the fact that the U.S. government is more powerful than the state governments and states have less rights than before, which could be good or bad depending on your political viewpoint. 🙂
The South was wrong in that it supported slavery, and the North was wrong because it supported a large, powerful government and minimal states’ rights. If you delve deeper into the time period you will see that racism was predominant among the Northerners as well, since most of them wanted to free the slaves, but only to send them back to Africa, not to accept them as equals. As you know, the “equals” part was not decided until 100 years later in the 1960s. Anyway, I hope this helps explain to you the other point of view, and I hope you’re able to figure out what you think yourself. The most important thing isn’t which side you believe was right, but whether you’ve actually studied the subject and are not just taking what other people say to be correct. Please check me up on anything I’ve said and see if it aligns with your research, and if it doesn’t, feel free to either debate it out with me or simply ignore it. 😛
I apologize for the fact that this is biased toward the South! I feel that it’s kind of okay, since you’ve obviously heard the Northern bias before, so maybe you can balance it out yourself. Please don’t take my opinions for your own without checking the facts yourself! That would be a horrible thing to do. 😉 And it’s totally okay to prefer the North after you’ve studied the history.
I feel like I left out so much stuff, but I also feel like this post is going to be a mile long once I post it. So, I’ll leave it like it is, and if you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer them to the best of my abilities. 🙂 History is my favorite subject!

@jenwriter17 I get a lot of my clothes from Ann Taylor. I wear mostly knee-length and midi skirts, so I don’t know if that’s too short for some people, but Ann Taylor carries a lot of nice skirts/dresses which I am comfortable wearing. We shop at Macy’s pretty often, too, and they usually have a good selection of skirts there."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 14, 2018 at 5:34 pm #72542@rochelaine Oh yes I remember you mentioning Ann Taylor. They have nice things 🙂
I think I can write for a bit. I’m actually rewriting though 😉

www.jennaterese.comMay 14, 2018 at 5:53 pm #72543@jenwriter17 Cool. I’m working on my western. Who would’ve guessed? 😛 I’m planning with myself to write a lot today, but…let’s see if that really happens. 😉
Has Rin forgiven you yet, for all you put her through? Is she demanding more pay before she agrees to work in the sequel?

Rin is asking for mercy for the sequel. 😛 I told her no promises.
I wonder what our characters would say if they were real people and talking to us right now. Maybe I don’t wanna know 😉
