@ariel-ashira If you were here for only a few seconds I may have missed you, but if not, hello!
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 9, 2018 at 11:01 am #72223Many apologies for disappearing yesterday. It was past four for me so I fell asleep ๐
I’ll be here for a while now though.
May 9, 2018 at 11:05 am #72224@rochellaine I am still here!ย Good morning!
"In a mask, was he?"
May 9, 2018 at 11:09 am #72225@valtmy That’s okay, but…what?!ย Where do you live?
@ariel-ashira I’m going to be off and on, since I’ve got to watch my little sisters while my mom is out of the house.ย So my replies might be slow or quick depending on what’s going on.How’s it going?ย Working on your biblical story?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 9, 2018 at 11:14 am #72226@rochellaine Yeah, I might have to leave any time, but I will try to tell you of I do.ย I am actually just catching up on emails and stuff.ย I have not written for a while.ย The main writing I do right now is to figure out characters and plots in my notebooks, not actual writing on Word Documents.ย I might try to enter the SE contest, if I can come up with something good enough.

May 9, 2018 at 11:17 am #72228I am on a little island called Singapore. I think I am exactly 12 hours ahead of you so your day is my night. Literally.

Kapeefer til we're old and greyMay 9, 2018 at 11:54 am #72233@ariel-ashira Goodbye! ๐
@valtmy Oh, okay.ย SeekJustice is in Australia, about sixteen hours ahead of me.ย Usually I stay up really late and talk with her at about 11:00-2:00 a.m. while it’s only lunch time for her. ๐ย ย What are you working on right now?
@alia Hello!ย How’s it going? (I’m on and off right now too, since I’m watching my little sisters. ๐ )"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 9, 2018 at 12:10 pm #72235I am working on my WIP, trying to make this passage of necessary infodump interesting…ย ๐
May 9, 2018 at 12:20 pm #72238@valtmy Really?ย If you figure that out, will you please let me know the secret?!ย I’m working on an annoyingly boring passage myself. ๐
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
May 9, 2018 at 12:36 pm #72239First rule is that the infodump should be relevant to whatever your character is currently doing I guess.
I suppose I have it easy because I’m writing a parody. That means I can narrate in the driest and most cynical tone possible so that the infodump can hopefully at least be funny.
But what I think works best in most cases is if you write the infodump in a way that conveys character as well. So you explain whatever you want to infodump about in the way your POV character would explain it (i.e. in their voice).
May 9, 2018 at 12:40 pm #72240@rochellaine, and I’m back!
Its going pretty well. my characters are finally understanding that they can’t stay behind the rocks for eternity.
WIP - Decisions
Kapeefer til we're old and greyMay 9, 2018 at 12:45 pm #72241@valtmy My problem isn’t infodumps as much as it is “bridge” sections.ย I don’t know if there’s an actual name for them, but they’re the parts where you go down in between the exciting passages and have to get the characters from one place to another.ย There are things that have to happen in between, so I can’t just skip the bridge and go on to the next exciting part, but I want to make the bridge interesting, even though it can’t be exciting.
Since you’re working on a “romance” story I have to ask…was it love at first sight for you and your characters? ๐ย With one of my characters it was.ย I adored Raelyn from the first moment I set eyes on her, though I knew nearly nothing about her. ๐
@alia Oh, yes they can!ย Staying behind the rocks is often the wiser decision. ๐ย But that’s great for you, actually, I guess.ย Chara finally realized she can’t just have a panic attack whenever I ask her to do anything, after I deleted the passages where she tried to faint several times.ย So I know how annoying it can be when your characters try to slow down your story for you."Sylvester - Sylvester!"
