      @alia Trying to make me feel better? haha. 😛  Oh well, if I could actually think of things to write I could write the posts pretty easily.  It’s coming up with topics that’s hard.  I guess I’ll learn once I get more used to it.

      Okay, happy writing!  I’ve got to get going and go get myself gone. 😛  It’s late.  (It must be late, if I’m feeling crazy enough to write a sentence like that.)

      See you in a couple of days, I hope!  (I’m not here on Sundays.)  Goodnight!

        @rochellaine, Well, it just so happens that I have a character interview thingy I do, so all I have to come up with is the answers. Pretty simple.

        dang, it must be late for you.

        see you later. I won’t be on tomorrow either, it’s my youngest sister’s birthday. Night

              @rochellaine @jenwriter17

              My problem with The Sound of Music is that I don’t really like musical movies (Les Mis being the exception). I don’t know why, I just feel the songs distract from the plot and make its seriousness feel trivial, since the songs don’t really have anything to do with the plot.

              I just felt the need to pop in and defend myself 😛

                @seekjustice I see what you’re thinking. I just love music so much that it’s clouding my thinking so I can’t understand why you’re thinking it. 😛

                  @seekjustice There are a couple of songs that could be left out without ruining the plot, I agree.  However, the majority of the songs are actually very important to the plot, in my opinion. 🙂  Let’s see…

                  • The nuns’ chants you will find in any non-musical movie that includes nuns or monks.  That’s their way of life, so if the songs were left out they would be portrayed inaccurately.
                  • The Sound of Music (song) when Captain Von Trapp comes home, needs to be there to show him that Maria brought music back into the family.  That song is just as important to the plot as the fact that the kids are climbing trees, rowing in a canoe, and wearing curtains.  It is also important in that it shows Uncle Max that the kids can sing, which he needs to know in order to make his later plans, which result in the Von Trapps’ escape. (the movie climax)
                  • Do Re Mi is important, because without it we would not see that the kids didn’t know how to sing, and that Maria taught them to sing.  Raindrops on Roses in the bedroom doesn’t do that, because that’s just Maria singing.  Because the Sound of Music movie is about how Maria taught the kids to sing, help their father heal, and used the singing and the healed father to escape the Nazis, the part where she teaches them to sing is the introduction to all those points and needs to be there.
                  • Raindrops on Roses (reprise) is important because the kids are remembering Maria when she’s gone.  This could be done by telling stories, but it is much more poignant when they quietly cry and sing what she taught them, rather than simply talking about her.  And the fact that she gets to join in at the end works better with a song than it would with dialogue.  (I’m not talking about the first Raindrops on Roses song.  That one isn’t necessary to the plot, since they could have done anything in the bedroom to calm the children down during the storm.)
                  • Edelweiss (first) is important because it’s when the Captain falls in love with Maria, and it shows him starting to soften and sing like he used to.  It also helps heal the relationship between him and Liesl, who remembers him singing when she was younger.  He needs to show he can sing so it won’t be quite so unexpected and random when he later joins in at the concert.
                  • Do Re Mi (reprise) at the concert isn’t terribly important, and the writers realized that.  That’s why they don’t do the whole song.  It’s just like any other movie concert.  They just sing a bit of it to show you that they’re in a concert.  It wouldn’t be a concert without songs! 😛
                  • Edelweiss (reprise) is again poignant, and though not necessary to the plot, is something you would see in a non-musical film.  It brings the Austrians together in the face of the Nazis.  You can put it with all the songs sung in the trenches, or in the face of adversity.

                  So, do you agree with any of those reasons?  I will agree that a few of the songs could be left out, and it could still be a great movie.  However, I think that the very plot and theme of the movie are based on and intertwined with music to such an extent that to only have one or two songs would be stranger than to have too many songs.

                  (Also, did you know that The Sound of Music was originally a stage musical?  They changed it a lot and removed several of the songs for the movie.)

                        @jenwriter17 I’m not sure, but I might be.  I’m helping my dad out with a business presentation this evening, and I don’t know whether I’ll be on tonight after that or not.  If I am I’ll let you know, and go ahead and tag me when you do get on in case. 🙂

                          @rochellaine

                          Its very true that a movie about a family of singers without singing would be kind of weird. Still, I have to admit that the first part kind of bores me (because…I have no interest in romance) and I like the second part the best. And some of them aren’t too bad and I don’t mind them. The only one I truly dislike is “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”, I just re listened to that one and I’d forgotten how much I disliked it. 😀

                            @seekjustice Yeah, well I like the “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” reprise, (with Maria,) even though the first one is kind of annoying.  It’s not supposed to be a great song, anyway, because the movie makes it obvious that Liesl was too young and she didn’t know what she was doing.  Still, my sister and I sometimes sing it as a joke, just so we can cringe at the lyrics: “I am seventeen, going on eighteen, I’ll take care of you!” 😮 😛

                            The only one I truly dislike is Something Good, because that one is so unbiblical.  They say that “nothing comes from nothing” and so there must have been something good in her childhood, or she couldn’t have good now, but God can make something come from nothing.

                                @jenwriter17 Haha!  I get the same problem when I practice harp.

                                I’ve actually been having trouble typing too, because there’s no desk the right size for me here, and when I try to put my computer on my lap the angle is bad, so I can’t type that way either…I ended up sitting on my feet on a chair that was too low for the desk, kneeling on the floor in front of a chair so I could use it for a desk, and trying to use a box to keep my feet up to make my lap level on a too-tall chair so the computer wouldn’t wiggle…

                                😛 But the seminar is done now and we’re loading up.  I’m using my phone’s hotspot to get online, so I’ll be typing in the car but my replies might be randomly delayed or quick depending on when I turn the hotspot on. 🙂  I am still writing, though!
