            Hello! I’m currently trying to edit/rewrite a dogfighting scene (not, like, an actual dogfight, but aeroplanes fighting each other).

            I’m terrible at fight scenes, so it’s not coming along very well. You?

              @seekjusticeย  Dogfights are cool, but I wouldn’t know how to write them either. ๐Ÿ˜€ย  Have you read the Tales of the RAF by Don Patterson?

              Well, right now I have my stuff on a flash driveย  so I’m trying to work on my western from our desktop computer. ๐Ÿ™‚

                @rochellaine

                I don’t know, I’m just terrible at writing descriptions of people fighting each other, especially when it’s not a duel with swords or anything, its more impersonal.

                No, I haven’t, but I might have heard of it.

                Cool! And how’s that going? Hopefully better than my dogfighting.

                  @seekjustice Well, during WWI the pilots could see each other pretty well since the planes weren’t as sealed in as they are now, right?ย  I’ve read of dogfights where the pilots saw the expressions on their opponents’ faces sometimes.

                  Well actually right now it’s going okay.ย  I think. ๐Ÿ˜›ย  I’m at a kind of boring part so I’m hoping I can get through it without boring the reader too much.ย  I’m always terrified of boring the reader because in the last novel I did (two years ago) for some reason I decided to add in some random scenes that could have been skipped if I’d been thinking better.ย  So I’m trying really hard not to have boring parts in this one! ๐Ÿ˜‰

                    @rochellaine

                    They definitely would have been able to see each other much better then, because yeah, they weren’t really enclosed. I’m also trying not to overload the story with pilot jargon, and that’s kind of hard.

                    That’s good. Are Chara and Uncle Bill out of hospital yet?

                      @seekjustice Do you know a lot of pilot jargon? ๐Ÿ˜›ย  I think you said something about knowing a pilot, but I don’t really remember.

                      Chara is, but Uncle Bill isn’t.ย  I can’t tell when he’s going to be out of the hospital until I know what’s wrong with him, and at present I have no idea what’s wrong with him. ๐Ÿ˜›ย  Poor Uncle Bill!ย  But anyway, he’ll have to stay there for a few days at least.ย  (I haven’t gotten much done on the story over the past few days. so not much time has passed since you last heard of them.)

                        By the way, what do you think Quillon’s sister might be named? I’m thinking at the moment of Tabitha Quillon, but what do you think?

                          @seekjustice Cool!ย  One of my brothers plans to be a missionary pilot.

                          I’ll do that!ย  Thanks. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                          Well, I really don’t like the name Tabitha, but I guess you’re trying to get an old-fashioned, not-so-pretty name to match Augustine, right?

                          (Oh, or do you actually like the name Tabitha?ย  I hope I didn’t just horrify you by calling it unpretty!ย  Sorry…)

                            @rochellaine

                            Oh, really? That’s what I wanted to do for a long time. I don’t know if its what I want to do/what God’s calling me to do anymore, but I still love planes ๐Ÿ˜€ A lot.

                            I don’t particularly like the name Tabitha, but it does have good connotations for me, since there’s the really cool Tabitha/Dorcas in the Bible and I knew a girl called Tabitha who was the sweetest ๐Ÿ™‚

                            But it is old fashioned. Which was why I was choosing it (because I doubt parents who named their son Augustine would call their daughter something pretty and modern). I was also considering Abigail or Bethany, though. Do you like either of those better?

                              @seekjustice Yes, I knew a girl named Tabitha too, and she was nice.ย  I just don’t happen to like the name.ย  But it’s just my preference.

                              I do like those better, but…what station were Mr. and Mrs. Quillon?ย  Augustine sounds pretty grandiose, while Tabitha, Abigail, and Bethany all sound like calico and sunbonnets.ย  Augustine sounds more like it goes with Anne or Isabelle or Arianna (though Arianna and possibly Isabelle are still in style.ย  I’m just using those as examples) as upperclass/princess names.

                                True… Mr and Mrs Quillon were lower middle-class and worked as undertakers, if that helps.ย  My sister suggested Francis and Angelica. What about Adelaide? It struck me earlier that the name Augustine is pretty grandiose, but it also brings to mind very traditional Anglicans or Catholics, at least to my mind.

                                  @seekjustice Well, I really don’t like gender-neutral names, since there’s already too much of that going on in the world lately, so I don’t like Francis much at all. ๐Ÿ™ sorry, sister of SeekJustice. ๐Ÿ˜€ย  Angelica is very nice, but almost too pretty, isn’t it?ย  I like Adelaide a lot! (Not personally, but in comparison with Augustine, I mean. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )ย  A couple of old traditional names I’ve come up with are Narcissa and Penelope.ย  What do you think of those?ย  Penelope is pretty boring, but can be cutified with a nickname of Penny, depending on the type of girl she is.

                                  Adelaide is really good, though, and so is Angelica, actually.
