      @ariel-ashira, I have some cousins who live in Alaska, but we’ve never visited them. I think Alaska is the only state that I have not been to.

          @ariel-ashira, not so much anymore. But when we were missionaries we had churches all over America that supported us, so we tried to visit them every time we came to the states for furlough.

                I’m not sure if you ever have said explicitly. But my brain decided you lived in Virginia. Based on what you said the other day though, about Washington DC, you probably either live in Virginia (or West Virginia), Maryland or Delaware.

                So you live in the South but aren’t really…Southern?

                  Well, I’m critiquing the excommunication of Michael Cerularius in the Santa Sophia church, trying to finish off my novel and also listening to Irish music, all the while getting distracted by Pinterest. Such is life.

                      I think I’m free now 😀 But still, my novel is calling me and Michael Cerularius is not.

                          That’s exactly right! It’s a good excuse to get out a social situation you never wanted to be in though. “Excuse me, I must go. My child is calling.”

                            @ariel-ashira, well, it depends on whether you are talking about the government or the people. The Chinese government operates using Communism. The only way for that to work is to keep the people poor, over-worked, and hungry. There are really only two classes of people. Party and middle class. Party members have more privileges. they can “vote”. They can have better jobs. and so on

                            but if you’re talking about the people, thats a different story. In most countries governments tell their people that Jesus was simply a crazy man. In China, they say He didn’t even exists. So we had to show who He was through how we lived. The Chinese people don’t have much of a family life. The grandparents raise the kids while the parents work, once the kids reach school age they are in school from pretty much 9-9 for about 10 and a half months out of the year. if they want to go to high-school they have to take a test. if they flunk it twice they can’t go. going to collage is even harder. the majority of the husbands beat their wives because they are drunk. So my family ran a restaurant and showed them how to be a functional family. I had about 5 girls that I was friends with at one point or another, and even though we couldn’t understand each other, they made an effort to get to know me.

                            The government is bad. The family situation is bad. But the people, they are amazing. especially the Christians.

                            American Christians are used to the government working with them. Not so in China. In the five years that I have been living in the states, I haven’t met a single American Christian who is as in tuned to The Father’s will as the Chinese. they are willing to give up everything for Him.

                            Sorry for such a long post, I tried to keep it short. you might not even be on anymore. But here is the China according to me. Whether it is different from what you were expecting or not, I can’t say.

                              I tried to edit my post and it got deleted.  So here I’m posting it again. 🙂

                              @alia It’s not an amazing poem, but you can read it if you want.  Here’s the link.

                              @seekjustice
                              Wow, good logic! 😛 Okay, so I live in Maryland.  Literature usually designates Maryland as part of the South.  We have fox hunts, fried chicken, plantations, and the like throughout our history.  However, we’re not considered a Southern state completely because of a confusion that happened during the Civil War.

                              Maryland was about to secede with the rest of the Southern states when all the Southern sympathizers who would have voted for secession were arrested, so the voting took place without them.  This was because the Union realized that D.C. was below Maryland, and if Maryland seceded, the president would be cut off from his country!  So Maryland “voted” not to secede, and we stayed a middle state, with a lot of people on both sides of the political spectrum.

                              Now, I believe partially because of that, we aren’t really part of the North, but we aren’t considered a real part of the South either.  It’s sort of like the Aesop’s fable about the bat, who said he was both beast and bird, and ended up being rejected by both.  We’re just a middle state.

                              Does that explain it? 😛
