https://forums.theaetherliFebruary 10, 2018 at 11:31 pm #63147@rochellaine, Sorry, just got back from church. 🙂
I haven’t read a whole lot of time travel, but I’m certainly open to it.
And the Captain America I’m talking about is ‘The First Avenger’. The one with Hydra (look it up) 🙂

February 10, 2018 at 11:35 pm #63148@aislinn-mollisong Okayyy, but isn’t The Enchanted Barn “just living”?
So, here we go:
Western: William MacLeod Raine, B. M. Bower, and Zane Grey are my favorite authors in this category.
Romance: G.L. Hill, you know…Definitely read Marcia Schuyler and The Strange Proposal. Rosa Nouchette Carey wrote some pretty deep romances, but they get very depressing before they get to the happy ending. 🙂 Patricia Brent, Spinster is a comedic romance that was really fun to read. Margaret Widdemer wrote two books, which you should read in order. 🙂
Mystery: Carolyn Wells is my other “favorite author”. Her dialogue is amazing. She also wrote a non-mystery series which is possibly my favorite series. It could possibly classify as romance? But not exactly. Definitely try the Patty Fairfield series, and if you do, you have to read them in order! I got my signature from the Patty series. 😀
Girls’ Adventure: The Nan Sherwood series by Annie Roe Carr is very good, except for the first book, which is okay. 🙂 Amy Bell Marlow wrote several stand-alone books.
Military: H. Irving Hancock wrote some very good books about boys’ experiences in military schools and as servicemen.
Sci-Fi: Of course, Jules Verne. Then there’s Tom Swift by Edward Stratemeyer. Tom Swift is a really famous series.
Boys’ Adventure: G. A. Henty and R. M. Ballantyne wrote a hundred books each, I think. 🙂
Fantasy/Adventure/His-Fic: The guy’s name is H. Rider Haggard. I’ve read his his-fic but I’ve heard he wrote some pretty good fantasy as well.
Sooo, have you heard of any of these books/authors already?

February 10, 2018 at 11:36 pm #63149@aislinn-mollisong That was a really long list – and I have many more recommendations I could give you! But please let me know if you like any of these, as I’d love to hear that someone else enjoys the same books I do – since most people have never heard of most of those books. 😀

February 10, 2018 at 11:58 pm #63150@clairec Yes, that’s the one I was talking about. At the beginning and at the end they show that Steve crashed in the Arctic and was frozen for 70 years, effectively time-traveling to the present day, because he did not grow older those seventy years in between, and remembered nothing of it.

February 11, 2018 at 8:56 pm #63207@dekreel I’m editing and I’ll join you!
Have you read anything by Baroness Emma Orczy? Her most famous book is The Scarlet Pimpernel, but she wrote a lot of others too and they sound like the sort of thing you’d like. You can get them all free on Project Gutenberg, and probably other public domain sights. They’re all romance/adventure books and I like them a lot.

February 11, 2018 at 8:57 pm #63208Okay, I’m going to watch Star Trek now
@rochellaine I’ll tell you about it the next time I run into you 😀You can pronounce it however you want.
February 11, 2018 at 9:54 pm #63213@dekreel Have fun! And definitely let me know! 🙂 Sorry I missed you. 🙁
@seekjustice No, I haven’t. I have tried to read some classics but I usually end up not liking them – Jane Austen, anyone? So if I hear the name of a book over and over the back of my mind puts it in the “don’t read” category. Whoops! 🙂 But I’ll try it and see, and let you know. 🙂 It does sound like something I’d like if I get it out of the “classics” category in my head.I think it sounds similar to Georgette Heyer’s books – of which I’ve only read one; The Black Moth. Have you read any of her works? I really liked that one.
Ooooh, Project Gutenberg! Isn’t that an amazing website? There seem to be an unlimited amount of good books there, and all for free!

February 11, 2018 at 10:00 pm #63215The Scarlet Pimpernel is the only one of her books that’s widely known, but it’s probably my least favourite out of the three of her books I’ve read. I don’t even know if the rest of them are still in print.
I have a Heyer book out from the library at the moment, but I haven’t read it yet.
Yeah, there’s a lot of cool books on there that I’ve never even heard of! Have you ever used Librivox? They have audiobooks too, though the narrators and the audio range from really really good to really really bad.

February 11, 2018 at 10:07 pm #63217@seekjustice @rochellaine I hath returned!!
Rochellaine — I watched the TNG episode “Schisms,” the fifth episode of the sixth season. It was pretty good! I liked it. My favorite part was undoubtedly Data’s poetry. It was SO FUNNY! XD XD XD Have you seen that episode? He did this poem about his cat, Spot. X’D HAHAHAA ohh it was hilarious!!
So my favorite TNG character is Data. X) Followed by Geordie LaForge

February 11, 2018 at 10:11 pm #63218@seekjustice Cool! Tell me if you like it. At first I didn’t like part of it because she had the guy dress up in ruffles and face paint – and then I realized that she was just being realistic, because that’s how guys dressed in society back then. Boy am I glad I didn’t live in that period!
Yes, I’ve listened to one full Librivox book. 🙂 It was Grace Livingston Hill’s The Best Man which I couldn’t find anywhere else free, and I just had to know the story. 😀 I sampled a few other books there as well, but I don’t usually listen to audiobooks. I like to read them better.
Something I like to do is go to Old Time Radio’s website and listen to the old radio shows from the 1930s-60s. I don’t have time to do that very often, but when I do, I love them. There is everything from musicals to comedy to drama and mystery.
