So! Koshka and I are going to go ahead and do one. We’re borrowing a page from y’alls’ book and doing a school type one.

But it’s not just a school, it’s The Institution of Correctional Education, a boarding school primarily for the Construction of Good Citizens for their Excellency’s Realm.

*cue tenor orchestra with a solo viola*

This is where the children from vanquished countries are taken to be trained into the ways of the empire. They must leave their past and live with full commitment to the ways of their new home, even if that means laying aside your heritage or even your faith.

*The Orchestra fades to silence, leaving the viola to sing of woe, alone*

There are four MCs, four POVs. (and I’m laughing, because one of them is from a very different world…)

The first is,

Daithí MacLasair (also called David Loranson)

Flame red hair and light hazel eyes that miss nothing and tell less.

He was always a bit of a tactician, able to plan far ahead and loving a puzzle. When his home kingdom fell in the war, he vowed to never let go of his heritage, no matter the cost. But then he was sent to the Institution, and found himself caught between survival and heritage.

But he’s not the kind to stand by and do nothing. He was in the resistance during the war, after all, even if he was just a child. Maybe those experiences will be his weapon, if not to win, then to make their victory fruitless.

Six unending semesters at the Institution have changed him, although not in the way they’d intended. When he was younger he hated lying. Now he’s not only good at it, he’s almost mastered the art. He is not a ‘worthy citizen’. He’s a rebel.

And a good one at that.

And next up, is…

Wilkins O’Laith (William Owens)

Gentle and quiet-spoken, he is an only son as the second born in a family of five children. He hails from the fens and wet-woodlands of the Tais, and struggles to learn the language here, finding it much less heartfelt than his mother-tongue. This is but his first year in the Institution.

His home seems to reflect itself in him, down to his muted coloring. His soft green-gray eyes remember the shades of the willow. With grey-blond hair, he is in constant odds with the Wardmaster who thinks the color is unkempt.

But it would seem that the thing they most want to wash him of, is what makes him who he is. The passion of the Taisish burns in his heart, and the blood of the Laith flows in his veins. Wilkins is one of the most dangerous of his people: he’s a poet.
