      Who is your Favorite Protagonist? What Made you Like them so Much?

      Now before I say what my answer is, let me just remind you that the question says favorite not best. XD

      My favorite since I was 10 is Percy Jackson. Part of it may be nostalgia, but nonetheless he is my answer. I really like that no matter what book he was in, he has a clear goal and strong motivation; that he stops at nothing to achieve. I also like his steadfast loyalty for his family and friends, and his sense of humor is great.

      What is your favorite protagonist? It can be from a book or movie.

              @not-so-secret-secret-assassin A worthy protagonist indeed.

              Generally my favorite characters are always extremely minor ones that appear for two seconds, so… I guess I like Kousei Arima from Your lie in April. He’s a pianist, like me, and has a lot of quirks that I like. And he isn’t too much of anything, like being too dramatic, or something. He’s very balanced.

                *walks into the room, head and plate held high, as the sharp click of her Hessian boots echoes behind her* So, I was taking a moment to think about who my favorite book protagonist was… *shuffles around the room, depositing butterscotch blondies into outstretched hands* …when it hit me. My favorite protagonist, unfortunately, cannot be found within the covers of a book, which feels almost like a slight to myself and my writing compatriots…but only almost. Because I am not ashamed to say that Rocky Balboa is, by far, my most favorite protagonist. Period.

                I love him. I love his determination. I love his mix of childlike wonder and mature wisdom. I love Sylvester Stallone. I love Rocky’s story. There’s just something about his character, his story, that’s not so stereotypical. He’s not the down-on-his-luck Cinderella man. He’s not the super intelligent, talented, all around great underdog boxer you’d expect him to be. He’s just a thirty-year-old guy who dotes on the birds in the pet shop, has a crush on the girl who works there, tells bad jokes, and collects rent money for a living. Sure, boxing’s a side gig, but it’s not taking him anywhere–until it does, and Rocky more than proves his mettle. And I think I’m starting to gush now, aren’t I? Well, I did write a thing for my English class about Mr. Balboa, so, I mean, I’ve got a lot of material…and a lot of proof that he’s definitely my favorite protagonist. I’ve never chanted anyone’s name so loudly before.

                  @gracie-j

                  Butterscotch blondies? Okay, I’ll take one of those. *joins the outstretched hands* Do you happen to have any chocolate peanut butter no-bake cookies? I really could go for one of those right now. Not being ungrateful or anything. Just sayin’. No, don’t look so offended! I love your butterscotch blondies. They’re great. I just… like peanut butter no-bake cookies. That’s all. *wipes sweat off brow* Phew.   *clears throat* Anyway.

                  Rocky huh? I’ve never seen that movie before. But then again, I’ve never seen Shrek either. So I’ll make Rocky my second favorite protagonist.

                  @devastate-lasting

                  He is? Good. ‘Cause I wouldn’t know. ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º) It will take a lot of convincing to get me to watch it.

                    Percy Jackson’s got nothin’ on Shrek.

                    (I think this Shrek joke needs to burn. This is not a proud moment of my life.)

                      @not-so-secret-secret-assassin Have all you want! About the peanut butter cookies… *cough cough* I, uh, I made a batch, just this morning, actually…but, uh, you know…the temptation was just too strong. I have some crumbs, though, if you’re still interested.

                      *scrolls back up to make sure she read that right* Never watched Rocky? Dude, you are missing out! There is no greater movie, no greater film series, no greater protagonist… Rocky! Rocky! (Can you hear the crowd at Madison Square Garden chanting?) Rocky! Rocky!

                      Ahem. Here–have a blondie.

                        @kathleenramm Yes, Mr Assassin Dude is my personal spy, though I unfortunately didn’t hire him. And I don’t finance his activities, either. Lets just suffice to say that all is not as it seems…after all, there are many spies in this nation.

                        Even assassins wear suits. Just ask my uncle, Jason…

                        @gracie-j (Thanks for the blondies; I’ve never actually tried those before.)

                        While admittedly both Rocky and Shrek are both formidable Protagonist candidates (with Rocky being the higher on the list), my favourite protagonist would have to be either Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. starring in the films), Hercule Poirot, or Fitzwilliam Darcy from the 1995 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. There are numerous others which have evaded my memory, but rest assured in the knowledge that they are, in fact, there.

                          @leon-fleming You’re very welcome for the blondies…considering you took the biggest–and the last–one! They’re something new I’m trying and so far, they’re a hit. If the fact that you’re still munching one it quite noisily.

                          Downey’s Holmes is a definitely a good one. Too good, I think, for the rest of the cast and even some of the story. I think the next film will probably be the best. There was something about his accent, though. Maybe I’m just too used to Iron Man. Hmm…speaking of Iron Man, he’s definitely a good protagonist. And Jack Sparrow–excuse me, Captain Jack Sparrow. Doesn’t everyone like Jack?

                            @gracie-j I, uh, yes, I mean, true. That is, they were delicious! But I couldn’t help taking the biggest one, since it was the last; and besides, I find it seriously disconcerting that all the others passed up the largest while it went around. Must be a timid sort of folk…not unlike my aunt Ursula…er, pass me a napkin, would you?

                            I agree. I partially agree. I fully with extra agree, there, too. Yes, he mentioned his accent himself. That could be it, yes. Though Iron Man was quite different from his eccentric acting as Mr SH himself, as Sir Downey Jr. would readily agree with. Iron Man is a good protagonist. Last I heard, he died.

                            Actually, I briefly considered old Jack when answering the original question to this post. Unfortunately, he just didn’t fulfill the right as my favourite protagonist. (…I did particularly enjoy watching him face-plant into the mud in Dead Men Tell no Tales.)

                              @leon-fleming *produces a delicate embroidered handkerchief from within the deep recess of her pocket* Would this do? You’ll have to excuse me if I ignore your petty excuses. The least you could’ve done was split it with the poor, underfed, scrawny little pipsqueak in the corner.

                              I cried when Iron Man died. Wait. You mean you haven’t watched Endgame? Eh, it wasn’t that good anyway. I seriously cried, though. In the middle of theater, like sobbed. It was sad. I mean, he was the best Marvel character (right next to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Fitz) ever.

                              I understand about Jack. There is always someone just a wee bit better, yes? But he is definitely the highlight of the PotC films–I can’t believe they’re considering not having him in the next movie!–simply because of how unique and hands-down hilarious he is. Certainly makes the top of my “Most Hilarious and Quotable Movie Characters of All Time.” Even though I think we can all agree that Rhett Butler’s last line in Gone with the Wind is certainly the most iconic. Or, well, me and the rest of cultured society can agree.

                                @gracie-j *sniffs apprehensively at the expensive handkerchief* *then gently pulls it to feel its strength* Yes, I think this might suffice, thank you.

                                Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the poor, underfed, scrawny little whippersnapper in the corner for obvious reasons. For one, he was in a corner on the other side of the building. For two, he had hid himself behind a wall (don’t ask me how, I just know). For three, you didn’t even notice that little child because you arrived within the room straight from outside. In fact, you went straight from your car to the door into the conference room. I know this because of the dark tinted windows which span the walls of the C room (which we were in). A fair number of other people must have noticed, I’m sure, considering the way you styled your hair.

                                No, yes, I have actually watched Endgame. I really enjoyed that film. Tony’s funeral music was very sad. So you wept in the theatre? Like, was it loud? Did people stare at you with crazed expressions on your face? At his death scene in the theatre I was at, there was only dead silence. Seriously; there wasn’t a sound in the whole room. I’m sure a few tears might have been shed, though. I wasn’t paying attention at the time…

                                Verily so. They’re considering not putting him in? That would be a shame.

                                Uh, huh. I’ll stand by as y’all shake hands in agreement. Champagne, anyone?

                                  @leon-fleming Are you insinuating that I only noticed the poor innocent child when I needed a retort to make you squirm? And are you mocking my hair? I personally think that my beehive is positively stylish, at the height of fashion. It fits quite well with my pink hot pants and white knee-high heeled boots. I mean, it’s very difficult walking in this ensemble, but that’s the price of beauty.

                                  To me, Endgame wasn’t as good as it could have been, but that’s a long discussion. I’m not entirely sure if anyone paid me any mind–the greater portion of the theater were too stunned and shocked, whilst my own vision was blurred with tears, so I couldn’t see much aside from Tony’s holographic face. *wipes away several stray tears* He left such a good legacy. He was *sniffles long and loud* such a good man. (Yes…I think it was loud. But not as loud as that one time I sobbed at a poetry coffeehouse. I’m pretty sure everyone stared at me. Then this one kid put his hand on my leg. It was weird.)

                                  I’ll pass on the champagne. But, then, I’m sure you wouldn’t have access to a good quality bottle anyway. 🤣
